Hi Folks, If a pilot hired at Ameriflight is initially assigned a piston-twin, how does it typically take to be upgraded to a turbo-prop? (Assume the pilot is willing to relocate.) Anybody have some info on this? Thanks. |

I know a guy who upgraded at two months out of BUR by going to an outstation. And if you are at the right base you can go to SLC, Billings, or ONT at about 3 months from what I have seen. Just dont go to PDX or OAK because they wont let you leave for at least six months because they are so understaffed in the chieftan. At my base the upgrade is at 7-8 months at the moment. So it depends, but I hope this helps!

There is a six month base lock when you get a new base. Sometimes people get out of them to go to outstations or places like Billings. But you definitely won't get out of PDX in under 6 months and you won't get a TP in PDX for a long time. It's a fairly senior turbine base. It's a cool base though, if you don't mind flying the Chieftain. All day runs, too.

OAK and ONT wouldn't be that bad of a place to be based. Anyone here based at either of these locations? Pros/Cons? For future reference of course |

Right, BFI. That's what I meant to say, of course. Is there a pilot base at BFI?

The first thought I have about either of those bases is the high cost of living.

"Is there a pilot base at BFI?" Yes there is. Trybysky is a checkairman there. |

I have a buddy based in OAK, he flew the lance, then the chieftan, then the BE99, I think the BE99 took about 8-12 months total. Seems real happy there...

And if you have some turbine experience you could possibly start in a 99 if there is an opening. How many hours are the 99 and Metro guys getting a month?

At BFI our guys are getting anywhere from 20 to 60 hrs/mo. More or less depending. How's that for vauge. I've been in the 99 for 4 months or so and I'm creeping up on ~300hrs in it and I still don't hold enough senority for a run. All reserve. BFI and PDX are both very senior bases for turbine time. de727Ups: training captain now, checkairman ride maybe this month, I hope. Peak is now over so some time may have free'd up. --do you remember when you were junior enough to work during peak! Later, TBS

"do you remember when you were junior enough to work during peak!" Ummmmm....no. Where were you the day after Xmas? I was at Hooters by myself. Well, not really by myself but without the pilot company I was hoping for. |

So what is the most junior 99 base besides the islands? And how senior are the runs that end in San?

SLC is all turbine equipment. Would you be able to hold ONT on the 99 in six months?

Pay is about $2150 a month I believe but that is base pay. You can make more. I took home after taxes more than that number last month flying the chieftan.

Is that $2150 starting pay on the piston? And are newhires still going to the 99 or does is it vary?

Are they needing pilots in BUR bad right now? What are the times that most pilots are getting on with? Anyone know about the lance run out of EMT? Are they still flying the lance?
