I don't see any "edit" text under his original post...the kind of label that shows up once you've edited your text.

Yes, that is puzzling. But the alternative is that I deliberately removed the text in question from my quotation, for which it would be difficult to create a motivation.

BTW, I just edited this post, and there is no edit notation at the bottom. There appears to be a time limit under which you can edit without penalty.

There is. I don't know what the amount of time is, but I've noticed that in the past also.

I thought the edit post tag didn't get added in unless you actually put a reason in the box. I often times edit without adding a reason and it shows as normal.

I probably edit over half of my posts and this is how it works as far as I know.

Test. Uh...test your EGPWS prior to the first flight of the day. (edit 1 was 1 minute later)

...and run your annunciator or rotary test too!

...but don't accidentally blow the fire bottles while "testing" the valves like the boss-man did once

Of course, when you're the boss man, you can get away with that.

...maybe that IS how it works (the edit thing). I'll be damned.

...one more try. I guess that did it, but I didn't put anything in the reason box. Weird.

Like I said, I think it's time based. Within a certain amount of time it won't show that it's been edited unless you put a reason down. After that time it will show as having been edited.

I kind of wish it would ALWAYS show as edited. It can be confusing otherwise. Maybe I'll forward this to the boss as a suggestion.

Actually, I think it ought to be either 0 or 1. People can be quoting the original post almost right away and it gets a tad confusing when things don't match up and there's no note that an edit has been made.

I agree that *any* edit should be noted; I see no advantage to having a grace period. Not like we're saving trees or anything.

Give me at least 5 minutes. I don't think I've made a post longer than one sentence without editing it as long as I've been here.

editing for comedic value

I'd suggest five minutes. That allows us time to re-read long posts to ensure they are grammatically accurate. There have been many times I've written a LONG post and had two or three minor grammatical errors that I wanted to clean up. With the "edit" tag, I'm afraid people will think I made some major adjustments to my post afterwords.

Make sense?

Agreed. I do not see the big deal. I often post. Think about it for a second or two and change something or spot a typo.

The primary purpose for the edit seems to be letting readers know that the post has been changed so they might want to reread it. Not a big deal.
