Default Editing posts

I noticed, after editing the living snot out of my original post, that there is no longer an edit option. Does that option expire with time or number of edits? I am guessing time.

Time is correct. I don't know what the limit is currently set at though.

And I guess, don't post drunk, ala...

You're the administrator Kristie, but in the post that I believe LoadMaster is talking about http://forums.jetcareers.com/showpos...3&postcount=14 , it looks like he was able to edit at least 38 minutes after he had posted.

I don't generally just pull stuff out of my... umm, thin air. The reason I bothered to click on QUOTE and compose a reply is because I thought I might know the correct answer, and it hadn't been offered in the thread, and I thought LoadMaster141 would appreciate having the correct information. But I wasn't sure, so I didn't just post useless, incorrect information. I knew it was greater than 6 minutes, because I was aware of editing posts as much as 30 minutes after posting.

So I tested it. I thought it might be 60 minutes, but found it was greater. I knew it had to be less than 3 hours, so I thought then it might be 90 minutes, but found it to be greater. Then, when I left a dialogue box open beyond the 120 minute limit and attempted to Post an EDIT, I got a dialogue box... it said the Administrator had set the time limit to... watch this... 120 minutes.

Quote:
  1. The administrator has specified that you can only edit messages for 120 minutes after you have posted. This limit has expired, so you must contact the administrator to make alterations on your message.

And that's why I said, "120 minutes".

Here's a link to an example of a post that was edited at the 120 minute point: http://forums.jetcareers.com/showpos...49&postcount=4

Ask Doug.

Goodne ss me sorry didnt mean to create a venue for controversy.

Steve is correct though. It was about 2 hours after I initially posted that the ability to edit went away. I was not sure if it was time or number of edits. I had edited my war story a bazillion times.

Nope.

I don't know what the time is that triggers the Edit notice at the bottom, but it's definitely more than 6 minutes. I just edited a post at 15 minutes, and there's no notice.

I'll play with this post and see if I can figure it out.

Looks like 30 minutes.

The reason why the software limits the amount of time available to edit a post because users will post something, and then a few days down the road, attempt to edit them. But people have already quoted and replied to the initial message.

So then mods/admins receive a flurry of "Dude! I made a butt of myself, but (user) quoted me in his reply and could you delete post #1234, 2342, 1238, 2343, yadda yadda yadda that reference my original post from 35 years ago?"
