| Old Skool | So I got my new Dell XPS Media series super computer back in April. But got fired from Chase in May so I couldn't afford to buy a desk for the computer as planned. So it has been sitting in its box for over two and half months because I had no where to put it. Talk about crazy. Anyways so le beau coup bought me a desk for my b-day amongst other things. Previously I was using my antequated laptop whos ethernet cord slot was broken and using USB. Now that I have the new computer should I continue to use the USB or spring for a ethernet cord? Also what is the difference pros & cons tween using USB or ethernet if any? |

| Big Chief's Woman | I dunno...doesn't Cox tell you how to plug the machine in? Your computer came with the modem card right? I would think that the high speed device would have a USB that you can use to plug from one to the other....but then again, we have wireless which is just different from being "plugged in" |

| Really, Bro, you're probably not going to notice any difference. Why? USB 2.0 supports data transfer at a rate of 400 Megabits per Second (Mbps). Your cable internet connection is probably NO FASTER than 3 Mbps. So, you aren't going to run out of bandwidth. That being said, ethernet is so much easier! If you use USB, there's the need for a Windows driver for the cable modem. Anytime you install another driver, you're creating the possibility for more conflicts. That's just more work for Windows to do, and there's no need for it when you can just use the ethernet connection. Also, you may want to expand your network later (wireless, or just add more WIRED computers). If you do that, you're going to need to switch to ethernet anyway! Just use the ethernet cable - it's no more hassle.

| Old Skool | IMO I have found the Ethernet connection to be faster that USB. I believe that is uses less system resources to do it that way. |
