How do I subscribe to a thread?

Also, how do I shorten the space a link takes up in a post by just saying something like "Click Here" instead of showing the entire web address?

As far as I know, just click 'thread tools' and select "subscribe to thread". I've never used it so I really don't know much about the function. Or even if it works, but i guess I'll have to put it on the 'to do' list.
