Default Changing user name still possible?

I recall that in the old software, there was an option to change your user name with administrator approval. Is this option available in vBulletins, or should users who want a new user name simply register a new account?

Ahh! Unless it's an emergency, chances are it's pretty far down on the priority list.

Otherwise, I'd spend about 20 hours a day doing secretarial work like name changes, birthday changes, password requests (there's an automatic feature, folks!), explaining that you've got to use your old "display name" to login and more "Dude, you're logging on thru AOL in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, you HAVE a normal email address, use it!" requests.

"hire" some supermods, slacker.

It's simple to do, find the user, replace name, save. Takes all of 5 seconds.

There's a looooooot of users here, bro!

I've spent my first two hours back in the US working on lost passwords, usernames "Dorkboy is being a poopyhead" and etc.

bahahaha

I had a guy email me yesterday because he couldn't log in. He forwarded me the confirmation email from ANOTHER forum, I had no users with his username, real name, nor email addy, and he wonders why he can't login... hrm.....

people around these parts do tend to take things a little too seriously though

Just to bring closure to this topic (and give a fair heads-up to anyone who might care about the user name change):

I did some investigating, and it looks like the only way to change the user name in vBulletins is for an administrator-level user to directly edit the user record, as Philip mentioned.

I will just go ahead and restart as an "new hire" with a new user name, with which I am now posting this message.

Doug, thank you for taking the time to respond directly to my initial post and I look forward to continued enjoyment of this informative and insightful forum.

respectfully,
-Hank

Argh! No, bro!

That's an enormous pain in the butt for users to register another account simply to change their username as there is a string of posts by Harlock and another string of posts by a "new user" that's the same person.

In the future, send me a PM and I'll put it in the 'to do' queue.

Default Re: Changing user name still possible?

(after a very long hiatus from the forum)

Doug,

I apologize profusely. I misintrepreted your reply and thought by registering a new ID, it would resolve the situation without requiring your intervention. I did not know that the forum policy was to avoid duplicate user IDs (I've been on some forums where it is a tolerated practice as long as the person discloses they have multiple IDs). I should have confirmed before registering the new ID.

I will go ahead and submit a request via PM as a very low priority item.

best regards
-Hank

If there's a good reason, he can put it higher on the priority list that way your not using 2 usernames... we'd rather make sure everyone only has one username, in all honesty...
