Municipal governments keep coming up with new ways to try and impede activity at their local airports and the burghers of Grant-Valkaria in Brevard County, Fla. have come up with a novel approach to pressuring a local field. The town council will consider a resolution on Monday that would outlaw flight training, including recurrent training, at Valkaria Airport (X59). The ban comes in the form of a zoning amendment that's bound to catch the attention of the FAA, since the airport has received federal funding and the agency frowns on limiting aeronautical activity at such facilities. http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news...ml?CMP=OTC-RSS Too many wrong way McCabes?

The deputy mayor of Palm Bay is an FIT graduate of the Aviation Management program. I imagine he'll get involved.

Ive spent many an hour around that airport, and there is nothing around it. Its a real craphole. Heck, the airport sucks too in my opinion. If anyone has ever landed there, it is rough and needs a major facelift. Not to mention the fields of grass on the runways.

I used to love flying into there. ... the intersection provided a good short field landing point, and there was usually no one there. The pot holes and weeds were fun to avoid and the trees around the airport were always fun too.....river ranch was another favorite with the "v" cut out of the trees on approach to the runways...

We used to take townie girls there when I was in college. Lots of good flight-team cross countries in formation. Easy to impress the Palm Bay ladies with a ride in a spanking new Grumman Tiger. Dinner and a night at the rodeo.
