Default Living in Vero

I posted this in another thread, but I'll put it here so that it's not so obscure,

Wanting to get an idea of the approx annual costs of living in in Vero beach while attending FSI. The last quotation for accomodation I got (2007) for their campus accomodation ranged from: (low)$18/night to (high)$25/night.

Extrapolated: for 1 month (low) $540
Year (low) $6480

: 1 month (high) $750
: year (high) $9000

I understand on campus accom costs more than in the surrounding areas just about anywhere you go.

They say food should set you back $120-130 a week:
: 1 month (based on $125) $500
: year $6000
I'm the kinda person that buys groceries and prefers to cook most of the time for maybe two meals /day (breakfast/dinner)
What sort of lifestyle do you find yourself as a hardworking student/instructor at FSI?

so for a year living in Vero should set you back between $12500-$15000.- not icluding a conservative beer fund/ travel home for a couple of days maybe once a year
Those figures seem pretty high, or are they realistic based on your experiences what other overheads can one expect outside the scope of flight training? Does the pay as an instructor (flying to the wire most of the time) allow an almost comfortable lifestyle or should I say what approx percentage of your income goes to living? Are you able to save money-(the large beer fund) maybe?

Well lets see, after talking to Mary Wood and Stephanie Timmerman when I was still in Iraq, this is the numbers I came up with as far as living expenses goes.

Total cost of training(Instructor Track) before discounts for MEI and CFI (for 600/hr Commitment.):

$79,912.80

$77,512.80: after your deposit.

Total Living Expenses (Food and Dorm Rent): $13,117.85

If you have a roomate and live out in town, your looking at a aproximately

$16,790.00

It's best if you stay at the academy and pay dorm fees and have a very conservative budjet for leasure time. I would be best to have a yearly budget of $17,000 just incase for miscelanious expenses such as gas, and with prices rising this summer its no joke. I plan on not going anywhere and drive only when I need to and just focus on studying.

These numbers are receant I calculated it last month in Iraq. I start at FSA in August.

Hope this helps a little.

I can't really fathom how you came up with it being cheaper living in the dorms.

I only did my calculations based of what numbers Stephanie gave me for dorm fees and food. Assuming that you have one or two roomates it can be cheaper living out in VERO apartments but then theres always utilities and cable and other amenities for comfort to pay for. But I haven't exactly lived there yet so any knowledgeable information that you may possess is greatly appreciated.

The cost of living in the dorm rooms ranges from 550-700 a month.

My apartment on the beach only runs about 450, but I do have the added expense of cable, utilities, car, etc.

Personally, I would recommend living in Vero instead of the dorms.

Perhaps in time I can find an apartment out in town, however im at a stage where I would need to find a place and find a roomate. Maybe Ill ask the other new students like my-self if they need a place to stay.

UNLESS.... THERES ANYONE OUT THERE LOOKING FOR A ROOMATE STARTING IN AUGUST LET ME KNOW!

lol

I recommend living in the dorms for the first month or so while you look for a place to live. Easiest thing to do is to get some friends together from your classes and split a house with them.
