Default part time job while attending FSA

Is it possible to hold down a part time job while atteding FSA? Possibly as a server or bartender? Having some extra cash would be nice, but not if it interferes with studies.

It definitly is, my roommate works almost everyday for the FSA administration buildings. And I know alot of people who work weekends and some weekdays.

I mean, i usually have around 5 or 6 hours of free time each day on average, so its definitly possible!

I did while I was a student at FSA...I think I started my job though after a 2-3 months in Vero. Worked an overnight shift 10pm-3am on the Freight Team at Homey D's.

It definatly is possible to have a part-time job while training. I've had one almost the entire time I've been at FSA. I would suggest waiting until you are at least through private (if you're not already) before doing so. If you haven't had much training under your belt, it can be very difficult to keep up with studies and flying. It also depends on how well you are doing in the ground schools and the flying portion. If things are going well and you are not having to repeat lessons, then I say go for it. It's more of a personal decision. Also, ask your instructor what he/she thinks. They may not suggest it or they may not mind. Just keep in mind that you may have to fly less during the week. Just some things to think about.

I would recommend a job at one of the FBOs at Vero Beach. I come from Oklahoma City where I was a line service technician for 1 1/2 years. I worked for Atlantic Aviation and it was a very busy operation. I loved the job because I was able to work with airplanes. However, what I liked best was the "networking" that I was able to do. I was offered flights in a Piper Meridian, Piper Cheyenne I, and Citation CJ1. I was also offered 172/182 and PA 28 flights all the time. One aircraft owner let me fly his older model 172 for just the price of the gas!

The Citation flights were the favorite. I even flew left seat on one trip. What it all comes down to is the fact that you will really get a feel for the corporate side of aviation and you will meet many possible contacts.

BTW, some of the high rollers that fly in may tip you $20 - $100 just for pulling up their Mercedes and throwing a couple bags in the back.

I think it all depends on how fast you want to get through the program. All of the guys I know who finished CIME in 5-6 months did not work. If you are not in a hurry then part time is fine.

It would be a definate advantage not to work during ground schools...

Good luck...
