Default Flight Instructor Interview

Hello,

I'm headed down to the Academy for a Flight Instructor interview and would love any help from anyone. I have all my ratings from elsewhere and just want to know what type of questions are going to be asked. I know i have a 100 question test, sim ride, flight, and one and one. If there is anyone who works there any tips would be great!!

I didn't know they were hiring from the outside, and I'm not exactly sure how the whole process goes.....but you'll be interviewing with somebody in management for each process. Make sure you read the airplane flying handbook (or whatever they call it these days)..especially on the commercial maneuvers. For the sim, make sure you have solid IFR procedures and skills. They're not looking for you to teach, but to fly with sound skill.

As for the flight, I have no idea...I would imagine that it'll be a CFI checkride to an extent, but definitely not as in depth. I'm sure since you come from the outside, they're making sure that you can teach while you fly the maneuvers vs. just flying them and explaining them after. I would expect a few landings and some commercial maneuvers, as well as a ground reference maneuver. Again, i've never seen them hire from the outside, so i'm not exactly sure how the flight would go.

In all phases (the sim excluded), make sure you use every piece of information you learned from FOI. They're big on the connection between the FOI and application of those principles.

As for the one on one, don't sweat it. Just be yourself and answer the questions honestly. If you don't know, the don't try to B.S. it. I did my CFI there and interviewed there, and they still asked me about stuff I had never thought about before. Just be open and honest, and you'll be fine.

good luck...

Hope you get the spot, we're hurting for instructors.
