Apparently the direct track is their bread and butter, and they want to advertise it.

Exactly..... I had a chance to view the ad. I think the ad is a step in the right direction however, I still almost passed it up flipping through the pages. It is kind of like the "my dad told me to attend FSA" ads. You almost miss the fact that it is a "flight school" ad. The current ad has flight safety academy, the FSA wings logo, and the flightsafetyacademy.com all in SMALL/TINY font. you almost miss the fact that it is FSA on the ad... I don't know who comes up with their ads but, they either need to really think about what will catch the eye of the average joe shopping schools or hire a professional to do their advertising. They need to "brand themselves".... Look at Starbucks. Their name is on everything in their stores, not to mention all of the book store and grocery store locations. I remember when I requested a license plate frame with "FlightSafety Academy" on it from the pilot shop. janice told me that New York would't authorize it. You can't ask for better advertising. lets see, several thousand vehicles from past students driving around the U.S. with our academy name on their license plate? Must be a bad idea... LOL..... Man, if I owned the school, those license plate frames would be given to every new student. Right along side that fancy coffee mug I received... ILS

Well I have a large FlightSafety Academy sticker on the rear window of my car, and a smaller one on my parent's car, does that count? :P

Yeah, it's the same argument that some of them had at DCA. "Anything that gets new people in the door is okay. That's the bottom line" I think being honest with people and not just giving them marketing BS is more important (a link to JC would suffice). I haven't seen the new FSA stuff, so I'm not judging it. Just saying I don't like the attitude that "anything goes as long as it brings new folks in the door" |

anything that "gets new folks in the door" is just serving to dissapoint the customer...especially in this industry...... | |

What are you guys talking about ? What did it say? I started a digital subscription to Flying magazine, and just got my August 2006 issue. (Digital, not print). In here, I saw two FSA ads... one for dispatch students, the other a full page ad that says: " FlightSafety Academy doesn't just create excellent pilots. We create excellent pilots who get hired. That's been our job for nearly 40 years, and now 13,000 of our graduates fly for 62 airlines and more than 100 corporate flight departments. Our job placement rate for instructor pilots stands at more than 98%. Just what you'd expect from the premier flight academy backed by the world leader in pilot training, FlightSafety International. So go places. Fly farther. Choose the flight academy where thousands of pilots have landed... job offers. Call today or visit flightsafetyacademy.com " Sounds like any typical academy ad. So what was wrong with the July ad, anyone got a picture of it ? Or can type the text like I did ? |

FSA has found a lucrative market and is using all of its name cred and marketing tools to feed the fire. Lets face it it is appealing to get ot the airlines quicker. I went to the academy, and in fact went with the idea I wanted to do direct track. After earning all of my ratings I took some time to think about the decision. First $22,500 doesn't grow on trees and that sum of money on top of what I had already spent seemed ridiculous. Second, and more importantly I did not feel that any amount of time practicing flows, profiles and playing airline pilot in a Level D was going to make me feel good about being second in command of an airliner with paying customers on board. I thought if I was sitting in the back, I would feel unhappy knowing the F/O has 200 hrs. But the program seems to be fairly successful for the folks who have done it. Once they get to the airline the direct trackers do all right, until furloughs start. To each his own.

"and more importantly I did not feel that any amount of time practicing flows, profiles and playing airline pilot in a Level D was going to make me feel good about being second in command of an airliner with paying customers on board" Can I get an Amen! This is one of my arguments against direct track. Jet F/O's need more seasoning before they become jet F/O's. RJ Capts just deserve better... "the program seems to be fairly successful for the folks who have done it" The direct track guys around JC are Badco and ILS. Badco hasn't posted in a while. Last I heard he was looking for a glider tow job or something like that....which would give him some great stick and rudder skills. Can't get that in a sim. ILS, not an airline pilot. Anyway, how do you define the success of a direct tracker? If they got a job or if the Capt doesn't roll his eyes after their first trip off of IOE? |

I never said you did the ASA program, either. I know Badco did. Hope it works out for him, someday.
