Default Intern plan is in place!

For those of you on the wait list, you'll be getting a memo in the mail about applying for the intern program. For those currently employed, you'll get a copy with your paystub.

It's late and I gotta study....more details when I get some sleep! Looks like a great deal, especially for those interested in the world of corporate aviation...great networking opportunities.

Internships are great. If you have a chance for one, go for it.

ACA does some, although I don't know if any of our interns are from FSI.

First group of interns should be leaving Vero this week. They're broken up into 2 groups...level 1 & 2. Level 1 is a short-term 90 day internship for those on the waiting list. A true internship, you'll do copying and phone answering along with flying in the sims and attending classes.

Level 2 is for guys who finished their 800-hour CFI contract. They'll be more along the lines of sim instructors/full time right seat dudes for customers needing a sim partner. They'll be full time and will get a free type rating at the end of a year. I know a CFI going to a Gulfstream internship and will get his GXX type worth the better part of 60K.

The *REAL* benefit of these internships will be the INCREDIBLE networking opportunities afforded the interns. Impress your sim partner? Maybe he'll offer you a job. Stranger things have happened.

Right now, only 5 centers are taking interns in a sort of trial run. Eventually (I think within months) you'll see many more centers signing on. Mr. Ueltschi (sp?) is fully supporting this program...he's Mr. FlightSafety. He founded the company over 50 years ago and still runs it today.

It's a great program that can go a long way toward helping our CFI's enter the world of corporate aviation. Plus, it'll move some CFI's up the ladder and out of Vero! That's a plus for everyone concerned.

The new intern plan just went bust! Five FSI IP's were offered internships and all five accepted. The promise was $15/hour with benefits after a 90-day period. The center managers then offered $7/hour and no befits to the five selected for the internships. All five have declined the offer and will remain at the Academy.

It's sad to see that FSI won't give their own employees a good deal and pay them well. The offer was a slap in the face considering the IPs are currently making $14/hour. Good for them for turning it down! This hurts the Academy because they now have five more IPs on payroll and that means no chance for a stan class.

Where are these internships that are paying? At Riddle one of the few internships that pay is FedEx and UPS whereas companies like ACA or ASA don’t pay. On the other hand, ACA will give interviews at 600hr to those who finish the internship.

Very disappointing news, and alarming that FSI management would allow such a program to fall apart. Where did the initial promise of pay and bennies come from-FSI management, or an employee on the Academy campus?
