I am thinking about attending the CFI-A course in August. I was wondering if any one could tell me what kind of supplies you are required to buy for the course (books and supplies projected cost $580) Any help would be appreciated.

Wait till you get there, the pilot shop at FSA has a great selection at reasonable prices. By waiting, you will prevent any unnessacary items. |

I think $580 sounds a little steep. I'm pretty I didn't spend more than $150 on CFI books when I did mine there. I mostly just used the FAA ones, and the one by Kershner.

I think I just bought the CFI Gleim, FOI book, and maybe one other. Most of your resources will be from books you probably already have, but if you don't have the basic textbooks, you may want to consider buying them. Unless you have to buy every resource out there, you shouldn't have to spend $580. Start building yourself a CFI binder now. It is nice to have something going as you make your lesson plans. We all (ahem...) made our own lesson plans, of course... Good luck with your CFI. I enjoyed getting that rating almost as much as getting my instrument. ![]() G |

I could be wrong, but I think that might include uniform stuff, POH's, and some books that may be optional or that you already own, i.e. Airplane Flying Handbook, Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, etc.. We mostly use the FAA books so if you want to pick up the Aviation Instructor's Handbook I would get that and maybe start looking it over. Dave |

When FSI quotes prices for needed supplies, they will include every book you can possibly need. They do the same things for uniforms. You will not spend that much, since you will already have most of the books. The reason they make the amount so high is for people who get loans. Some lenders will only loan the amount quoted by FSI for the course, so by including everything you could possibly need, you can borrow a little more in case you need it.
