Default Scheduling system

How do you guys manage your schedule at FSI? Do the individual students or instructors get to request the actual time they want to fly or is it assigned? For example, we don't know what our flight schedule for the next day is, until 5pm the night before.

No it is not assigned. IP's are responsible for scheduling their students. Instructors must request their schedules in the scheduling system by 8 AM the previous day. THe schedules are printed and posted around 3 PM each afternoon. THe students wont know with certainty what their schedule will be until the actual schedule is printed out the day before, but they will have an idea of when they are flying becasue this has already been coordinated with their instructor.

What I usually do is discuss with the student at the beginning of the week our plan for the week, and then after each lesson after debriefing, I discuss with the student what day and time I am planning on scheduling them for their next lesson.

So if a whole bunch of people request to fly at the same, what determines who actually gets to fly at the request time? Seniority?

With 90 or so aircraft, availability is rarely a problem. If a conflict arises, the scheduling office may move the time around a little to ensure the students get on the schedule that day, it may just be a couple hours from what they planned. The scheduling office here does a great job making sure they try to get the schedule as close to what the instructor requested.
