Default Dispatch Schools

Hello,

I am interested in pursuing training to obtain a Dispatch certificate. Having gone through flight training all the way to CFII, I believe I would qualify for the "reduced" courses. Those shorten courses appear to last from one to two weeks in length.

My question is, which schools are recommended? I would rather attend a one week class than a two week one due to time constraints.

Thank you!

I completed the reduced hours course at Flight Control Academy in Tucson, AZ. back several years ago. It was a very good program and they are approved for an 8 day (64 hours) course. I believe that they only do 1-2 reduced hours courses a year.

The instructors are very knowlegable and can offer plenty of insight as to the dispatcher role.

Their address is www.flightcontrolacademy.com

Give them a call and I'm sure they will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about their program.

Good Luck in whatever you decide.

I asked the dispatchers at my airline and they recommended Sheffield. I've been considering taking the class myself.

To make Lloyd happy...have you checked with FlightSafety. I am not sure if they have a reduced course but I know they do offer a Dispatcher course.

I went to www.agschools.com. I liked it. They have accelerated programs and I finished in one week.

I highly recommend FlightSafety @ LGA (or STL). They did a great job, and I know I got my $'s worth. Taught by Dispatchers and flight instructors, and they give you more course hours than required (240 vs. 200). The extra hours are spent on practical dispatching, which includes a good intro to international flight planning. It was 6 weeks, and the price was $3,900 (3,600 if you paid lump sum).

Cool Re: Dispatch Schools

BC&A (Business & Commercial Aviation) had an article in their July 2006 issue witha page that listed FAA Approved Dispatch Schools from FAR Part 65 (Appendix A). You can check out the FAR or PM me and I'll send you a scan of the page.

I didn't read it (not my mag, its at SF) but it would probably be a good read for those interested. I'll scan the article if enough people are interested.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions and recommendations. I'll request a brochure from a select few listed above and go from there. Again, thank you!

Hi - I did FlightSafety at LGA (I'm in the area so that was easier). They have a few options, refresher (for those with the license), short course for those that can get accepted - its 3 weeks as far as I remember and the standard 6 week course.

I can only say good things about their course - instructors were really good and went out their way to assist.

If you are in the Salt Lake city area the community college just started a dispatch program.

I also completed my disptacher training (one week) at Airline Ground Schools.
www.agschools.com

I was happy with my choice. Flight Options was on-site during the last day of our class, and ended hiring quite a few people a week later. I was lucky enough to have a job secured with another corporate operator prior to attending class, otherwise I would probably be working for them too!

The other schools I looked at were Sheffield and Flight Safety, but AGS was closest to home, had the shortest course time, and offered the best value in my opinion.

None in Houston I know of. However, there are 3 or 4 in Texas:

- World Airline Dispatch Schools - Forth Worth - www.fltdisp.com
- Mountain View College - Dallas
- Institute of Flight Operations and Dispatch - Fort Worth - www.airlinedispatcher.com
