Lets work backwards here. In order to have an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, you basically need 1500 hours, a commercial certificate and an instrument rating. Not many people need an ATP single, so you can pretty much assume you need a multi-engine rating as well.

You can get these at any type of school. Part 61 "FBO's" up to large part 141 "academies". The end result of certification is still the same. My commercial certificate I earned from ERAU looked just like the one that Jimmy Joe Bob got down the street in Goodyear at the local flight school with a single Cessna 150.

Part 141 or 61? Depends on what you're looking for out of the traning environment. Some people like (and can afford) the institutional structure of a large, part-141 academy. Other folks like the structure of 141 at a much smaller school or FBO. Other folks like a well-organized part-61 program, but enjoy the flexibility and lack of institutional of a larger school or academy.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for.

The biggest isn't necessarily the best.

The most expensive doesn't necessarily mean the highest quality.

A well-networked pilot with a good, positive attitude will succeed no matter if he's at a large academy with connections or training out of a barn in Modesto. You can't buy attitude or networking skills.

Best of luck!

And "Airline Transport Professionals" is a school, "Airline Transport Pilot" is a certificate.
