| Newbie | After spending the last few months visting about a dozen local flight schools/fbo's and even making a trip out to PHX to check out some of the bigger brothers out there I would say that my decision was made easy for me. The flight academies really gave me a sense that they are too big for themselves and really just pump those students out like another number. For example, after scheduling a tour a month in advance, upon arriving, they had no idea who I was or what I was there for. Then it was a rush to find someone to show me around. I wasn't really impressed at all. Personally after making those visits it really just wasn't for me at one of the factory schools. After calling at least a dozen local schools, only 2 of them actually returned my calls. I visited 6 of them and only found 1 that really matched up with my needs. The short of it, is that I am planning to pursue my aviation education at Horizon Aviation, which has two locations, both pretty much equidistant from where I live. (about 45 mins). They're located at KOWD and PVD. Now just have to get everything else lined up - ie. financing, medical, etc. Plus a variety of aircraft to learn in: 152's, 172's, 172RG, Seminole, Diamond DA-40 w/ G1000 to start with. Here's the place: http://www.horizonaviation.com/ |

enjoy. work hard, but have fun at the same time. you seem sensible, with your choice. Don't know how old you are, but when I was 18, I thought riddle was the only way to go. thank god I didn't. | |

| i was in same situation until couple of weeks ago, but didnt have the financial cabability of doing all those visits. instead, i spent hours and hours online and it also took me quite a few months to understand what im looking for and y. my task was easier though since im an international and was looking for a JAA approved school. Im going to OFT in a few months. they do atpl ground school in orlando and prices look ok. focus on your training and care less about the environment around you. its what you really want and you should leave no barrier distract you... good luck! the only way is up. |

| Newbie | I'm 26 and a career changer. I've had this dream since a few years into high school. I went on to achieve my Bachelor's in Business and worked in the real world for several years. Now I'm finally doing something about chasing my dreams. There's no turning back. Thanks to you both for your support and feedback! |

| Good luck with the training, do you know if you are going to train in OWD or PVD? Either way you'll get exposure to control towers and busy airspace (OWD a lot quiter but is is underlying the Boston Bravo). |

| Newbie | I will most likely train out of PVD since it is an easier drive than dealing with traffic around the Boston area. I lived in Boston for 5 years and dealt with that commute. But I wouldn't be surpised to stop in there occasionally either. They are both about the same distance. That's one of the pluses that drew me to them, being towered and in busy airspace so familiarity radio communications will be essential. PVD of course being more active with commercial and corporates out of there too. |
