Default Mazzei Flying Service

Hi folks I am new to this site, SORRY for the inconvenience caused, to the folks who see this post at two places a. Here and b. General Topics.

I am planning to go to Mazzie Flying Service, Fresno CA for their Professional pilot program.
Can any one give me a review about that school. How are the instructors there? what is the student to instructor ratio? how is the training? the costs in actual and the treatment to students and treatment to instructors by the management ( well treated instructors by the mgmt would be happy employees and will behave the same way with the students)

It will be nice if someone can throw some light on the above mentioned issues . Suggestions welcome

I have a friend who went there and seemed to have a good experience. Small school, good instructors/scheduling...But this has been 6 or7 years ago. Fresno gets socked in in the winter, I know he battled the fog during training. But otherwise I have heard only good things. I will try to find out more.

you know. If you search for it, I have a very long and detailed blog from my days at Mazzei. May be of some help in your quest for knowledge.

Okay, so I got a little more info on my buddy's experience at Mazzei. Keep in mind that he was there in 2002, so many things may have changed (especially instructor-wise)...
The Good: Great instructors, all were very helpful, seemed happy to be there, and the ratio of instructors to students was good. He never had any trouble with scheduling. The planes were well maintained, and there was never a shortage due to maintenance issues. All in all, his experience was a positive one, met a lot of great people. Good place to train, all types of airspace and a variety of terrain not too far.
The Bad: The weather...avoid winter. Fog kept him on the ground more than anything. (And I know it can get pretty hot in the summer in the central valley)
And I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing for you, but he said it's a good program for people who are more diciplined when it comes to studying for your writtens. They don't hold your hand through it.

So that's what I know...The name 'Jerry' was also dropped...I think he may be the admissions guy...apparently a good guy according to all accounts, if he's still there.

Let me know what else you find out.

It's a good school! If you study, you will become a great pilot! Instructor to student ratio is tight right now. But, if you study hard you will easily get a job as a CFI when your course is finished. They really want their students to become good pilots first! And they will show you how. One month of winter can be an issue, other than that, the weather is flyable. Poor visibility some of the year, but, still flyable. Smaller school yet, well established.
PM me for more info.

Yes. Jerry is still working there. From the few times I've spoke with him, he seems to be a very nice guy. I live in Fresno and would love to attend this school. However they seem to be booked up until the end of summer. They have type of contract with an oversees airliner and aren't accepting new Career Pilot Program students (This is what they told me as of last week).

I do know the school is a little small. But from my experiances at the school the past few years and from what I've heard. It's a top notch place. They have a huge fleet of Piper Tomahawks and planes are always available.

As far as the number of Instructors go.. I really couldn't say. The weather in Fresno is generally pretty nice. It does get very foggy in the winter mornings though. But it always clears up. The rain is very seldom too. Overall I think this is a great place to train since it's near a variety of locations. In the summer is does get very hot though!

The student housing is pretty close to the airport and is in a nice area.

I really wish they weren't so booked though.
