Kristie says I drive like a grandmother. But then, I figure the difference between driving 70mph and 85mph is negligible in speed, but exponentially more dangerous. I've gone from .74 mach to .81 mach and the arrival time didn't change all that much. So like Jethro's really going to make up any time by driving 90 mph and weaving in and out of traffic? whuteva!

That would be because 4 days a week pilots cars are sitting at the airport not being driven....less exposure.

That reminds me of my granddad(retired Eastern). We would drive everywhere...and I mean everywhere at 55mph. Des Moines to Dallas 55mph Alaska? 55mph People would pass us and he'd say...we'll catch em at the gas station. Oh yeah his suburban had a 50 gallon gas tank 850mile range...at 55mph. | |

There's a little bit of truth to that. I'm sitting in my old airport beater driving the speed limit and get passed with about 20 mph of closure by a bald 55 year old in a corvette. Pull up to the traffic signal, and there he is again. Rinse... Repeat...

It's funny to see the looks on their faces when they do dumb things like stay in the left lane after passing you and you end up back in front of them....over and over again while you cruise along slower than their crazy pace! I do drive a bit fast at times but there is a time and a place for that and it's not in the Wal-Mart parking lot or on a very busy/crowded road or near a lot of pedestrians or children.

So what about miltary pilots? Can they drive very fast without getting in an accident? I know it says enlisted military, but some of our warrents act just like enlisted.

I unfortunately realized this back in college, I made a drive from miami back to daytona. My average speed (according my gps) was over 100 mph (I had a paper due the next day and needed to get home to write it...). I filled up my tank about 3/4 of the way thru - I figured I went from around 30 mpg to 10 mpg...(but back then gas prices were 1.20/gal )
