Default Question to VA Pro pilots

Just had a question for the pilots that are now or have been in the VA Pro program. Was there any special documents you needed to have or any paperwork you needed to personally submit to the VA prior to coming to the school to get your (MGIB) benefits?

What I've done so far is requsted and recieved written verification of my MGIB benefit entitlement. Plan to dig up my DD Form-214 but I dont think thats really needed. I'm assuming the school has VA reps who are knowledgable about what paperwork needs to be submitted.

This is my first move outside the military and I don't have a PCS checklist to follow LOL! Just trying to get all my stuff together!

Any other thoughts or lessons learned in this area would be great!

Most schools don't have a clue about va benefits. They know how to fill out the paperwork, but the rest is up to you. You shouldn't need the dd-214. Just make sure you have the form from the VA that says you are eligibile. (letter of eligibility) Find your local VA rep, or find out who the rep is for that particular school and get in tight with them. THis VA rep is not the person that does the VA paperwork at the school! Each VA approved school has a VA rep that has to audit the VA paperwork, 141 training records etc. THis person is pretty good with knowing how the paperwork flows up at the regional VA office where all of the cash comes from. Good Luck

A copy of your DD-214 should be brought with you. We need a copy for your file and like to have it on hand should we need to resubmit it to the VA Office. Also, if you have not applied for Education benefits yet, you should go online to VONAPP and do so . This should be completed prior to your arrival at our school. Hopefully this will help to expedite the process.

Veterans ON Line Applications. You can go online to www.va.gov and access VONAPP. You can submit your application for Education Benefits electronically , make sure you print a copy, and sign it and then mail it also. The Veterans Office has to receive a copy with your signature . Save a copy for your records .
