I am going to visit ATP, Ari-Ben, and American Flyers next week and decide which one is best for me and then get after it and hopefully get my ratings... I am 250 TT, IFR pilot. I have done the XC's for the Comercial, but have not done anything on the written. Idealy i want to get a job with a regional to work my way into a major. I want to do what I need to do but I dont want to take forever, the sooner I am prepered for the airlines the better. Any suggestions as to where to go and what to do? One other odd thing is that at the end of September I am heading off to Utah to be a ski patroller so i am worried about the twin time and the recency on that deal... I am going to the Ari-Ben ground school for the comercial written - anyone been through it? Advice on it? Thanks.... |

Uhhhh, what are you asking about? And why does it matter that you're gonna be a ski bum? You can still prepare on your time off the mountain. Just do it when you can and as fast of a pace as you can (if you're saying you don't want to take forever). I don't think you need our "help," just do what you think is best for your life. I got my private in June of '01, IFR December of '02, and then didn't get anymore ratings until October of '05 after I graduated from college in August...I had a ball living the college life, going on vacations, etc. and still managed to get everything done and I'm one of the youngest guys at Colgan. So just enjoy the ride and don't sweat it.

Average of a year...I just met some people in upgrade, the longest upgrade time I heard was 16 months.

Not sure what you're talking about with the ground school for the commercial written...I did my multi-commercial some time back and Tuesday is my single-commercial checkride and I've not been to a ground school for it Part 61...even for 141 it's just one-on-one with your instructor. As for the written test, I studied up and did practice tests online for it and got 97%. Primarily it seemed to be a lot of the other writtens with a bit of new material and the older questions often reworded a bit so they aren't exactly the same. It wasn't too difficult, but there are quite a few questions around for them to ask you from at this point.
