I was surprised to find out that you can obtain loans through the federal gov't. There are many advantages, such as low fixed interest rate unlike keybank which can really screw you up. I hope SteveC isn't reading this one. But I will be taking out some loans out of the government to pay for college in the future. If I can pay them off and establish a good reputation, I am sure I will be qualified for a good sum of money from uncle sam. Has anybody done this? I e-mailed ari-ben financial aid asking this question. You have to be a U.S. citizen to obtain government loans from ari-ben for flight training, but you only need to be a permanent resident to obtain loans for college. huh? is that right? I think they made a mistake there. I am waiting to hear from them.

I believe they are capped off around $6600 for aviator, but you can get a lot more for a 4-year college. I'm just gonna ask SteveC to co-sign for my loan. What do you say SteveC, will you co-sign for $100,000 for me to go to gulfstream. edit: This is just a joke.

| Nice to know that at least the message is being heard. Obviously it hasn't fully sunk in yet though....

Whoops! Wrong message! Feel free to talk about loans all you want. My message on loans is, well, here's a link. But my message about loans is just my opinion. It is not meant to stifle conversation, but the converse.

Talk is good SharkFisher. I myself plan to appy for financing soon(federal 1st, then private loan), and will post on my outcome(good or bad). You have to make your decision based on your situation. If I was younger, I personally would go the fbo/pay as you go route. However, having turned 30, I have chosen to go with a loan, which will cost me a lot more money after all the interest. Best of luck, and please don't bite your tongue...unless it is negative of course.
