Well I finally got to visit the school that was on the top of my list for so long now. I was very impressed with the friendly staff and instructors. Brian gave me a quick tour of the facilities and I got to take a look at the PanAm housing. The rooms are very large and the common area is more than adequate. I like that each room had it's own bathroom. The only thing missing was a regular stove in the kitchen. The owner of the school Mr. Cohen was very friendly and answered all of my questions. I did'nt feel any high pressure sales tactics and was very comfortable discussing my plans. It was really neat to see a 100 hr timebuilding student come in while I was speaking to Mr. Cohen and hand in his aviator i.d. pass and say that he won't be needing it anymore since he just got hired by American Eagle. I understand that's like 6 students in one week who just got hired by various companies"WOW"....I gues aviator's doing something right I also got to backseat a flight in the Duchess and although the weather was about 90 deg and I thought it would be a bumpy flight, to my surprise once we climbed past 2000 ft the air was amazingly smooth and the temp was perfect. The air ducts on the Duchess are very effective at keeping the occupants cool. Another nice thing about the Duchess is that both doors open unlike the Seminole, which allows for fresh air during taxing on hot days as well as the fact that there was plenty of shoulder room and space in the cockpit. My overall impression of this school is that it is a friendly down to earth enviorment for someone to come get there ratings, instruct and move on to bigger aircraft. I think the price of $34,000 is a great deal and I am going to send in my paperwork as soon as I finish my Private back here in Toronto. |

| Awesome! I looked at Ari-Ben, but I never did make it out to FL (from CA) to check 'em out. My impression of them when I was checking out their website was that they'd be a good school to go to, but the transition from CA to FL for training and back home again led me to look elsewhere. Best of luck to ya at Ari-Ben! |

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed your visit S.T.Aviator! Actually, the row of Pan-Am apartments closest to St Lucie Blvd where I'm at do have regular stoves, but the apartments that I understand were built first just have the convection ovens with eyes on top. But those older ones also have grills out back which we have used quite a few times when my friends and I here get together and cook. But the convection ovens/eyes work pretty well..I've had some very good food cooked on/in them while I've been here. Enjoy the rest of your PPL and I'm looking forward to meeting you when you arrive in a few weeks!

"but I decided that I'm going do an apprenticeship as an AME" KnightHawker, if you are seriously interested in getting your AME license , I would recomend you take a look at Stevenson's College in Manitoba. They have a great program where you only have to spend about 6 months in classroom. You would go out and get an AME apprentice job and your employer would sponsor you into the program. You can apprentice anywhere in Canada. There is a shop at the Oshawa airport that does this. You may want to speak to them about. P.M me if you have any further questions. |
