| Still trying to decide what school to attend and I have a few more questions that hopefully some of you might be able to answer - How many hours do instructors average a month over the year, and how many months do people usually instruct for before they have enough hours to move on to other flying positions? Also, what time of the year is the busiest for instructors? Thanks! |

FlightAttendant Our Instructors Average between 70 and 140 hours per month, of course when you first get your Instructor rating it will be less then that until you get a few more students. We have had some Instructors here for 12 months some for less, all depends on how much you want to fly each month. |

Sorry, I don't agree with CommPilot76. Flying 140hrs for one month is possible, but there is nobody out there that is averaging 140 per month over several months. This would mean if the instructor was giving ground like they should be, they would be working 250-280hrs per month. How would you like having an instructor that was working a 70hr week? A lot depends on how many student you are assigned. This is not the same as it depending on how many hours you want to fly, like CommPilot76 says. 70hrs is possible but 50hrs is very realistic and a good figure to shoot for. You may get out of here with Colgan, at 600 hrs so six months instruction is all that it will take. |

If it's more than 50 great, but even 50 hours a month of multi is good. That would cost over $5000 a month out of pocket to gain elsewhere. Count me in.

Last july I got 156 hrs instructing in one month. ![]() You have to be a motivated instructor if you want to fly and make money. I was out in 12 months instructing. Although there is two who just got hired with XJT that had only about 8 or 9months instructing. Ivan |

So what is the average hours instructors are earning nowadays. Are students given to the instructors based on seniority? | |

I would say they average about 70 hrs. Some get more hours than that and some get fewer. Students are given to instructors based on how many students they already have. Btw, I passed my MEI oral today and I will take the flight portion tomorrow. Expect an update on my thread sometime on Saturday. Can't wait 'til tomorrow night. |
