I didnt train there, but went up for a look. Was a small operation, but the guys there were very friendly/knowledgeable...

I recently received my Private Pilot and Instrument rating through Delaware Skyways. I found their staff to be very professional and thorough in their training. They followed the Cessna Training Course which outlined what to expect in each lesson and they did not try to drag out my training unnecessarily. As for the planes and rental costs... you typically get what you pay for. I flew their Cessna 172's which were less than 5 years old, and each one was equipped with an IFR-GPS and autopilot. There was no additional surcharge for fuel either. As more and more GPS approaches replace older procedures, I feel the hands-on GPS training was well worth the money spent. If you plan on pursuing a career in aviation, I would highly recommend paying a little more for practical IFR-GPS training.

This place needs better management!!! I was going to get checked out in C-172 so I could rent it on a regular basis. They told me I needed a 20hr check out in the aircraft. Come that is unheard of I have 350+hrs and a instrument rating most of that time being in a C-172, that and I also have my own renter's insurance through AOPA. They just want to steal your money from you. The rental rates are outrageous too!!!

WOW, I won't be flying at Delaware Skyways. Their rental Rates are out of this world $110.00/HR, it looks like I will be flying elsewhere. Maybe Hortman Aviation at PNE. Rental Charges are 75.00/HR for the same Cessna 172. That's more reasonable...

I too felt mislead by the personnel at DE Skyways. On my demo flight my CFI advised me I would be able to log the demo flight in my log book should I continue with training. I was told later that my instructor took me on a sight seeing tour, no instruction was performed. I informed the woman (I think her name was Lisa) once at TPA I was given the yoke and flew the plane from Wilm to south of Middletown, east to the river and back. This was under the instruction of their CFI. Thirty minutes of flight time is nothing and I'm not concerned about the time. It's the bad business practice that upset me. Lying to a customer and or not fulfilling a commitment their employee made is poor business practice. What is funny is I will need to take my written test soon. Had I not been treated so poorly I might have gone there to take the written exam, take further instruction or hanger my plane there. Not now!
Disclaimer, I have had no experience with DE Skyways. These postings are not to reenforce any particualar point of view. I just knew where to find some responses to share for you.

Disclaimer 2, always remember to get a feel for a place yourself as everyone's experience is different.

One may love it while you can't stand it and vice versa.

I see, mixed emotions about DE Skyways. I am not sure where I'll be going now but I guess if I was getting my instruments and didn't like it, I would just go somwhere else. Thanks for that wind chill, I thought you would post .
