Does anyone have any good suggestions for flight schools in the PHX area? I need to finish my CASEL, and move on to my CFI

Oops, just read that you are in the Tempe area. Give Falcon Field in Mesa a try. Not sure about prices, but I hear that the schools at Falcon Field, on average, offer the best prices for flight instruction and rentasl rates.

Westwind at KDVT is a pretty darn good school. Check 'em out.

I'd stay away from falcon field, a lot of sketchy maintenance out there. Cheapest ain't always best is this industry. Also, a number of pretty bad instructors out of falcon. Tailwind is ok out of chandler. Not sure how good the instructors are there anymore, but possibly worth a shot. My personal recommendation, Angel Air out of stellar airpark. You definitely pay more, but I know a lot of people who go through and get their ratings get hired as a flight instructor.... myself included (I worked their for 8 months). For the most part, there are some really good instructors their. Westwind's probably alright, and so is Glendale aviation. Good luck!

I got my Private, Instrument and Commercial at Glendale (GEU) (though about two years ago). I still rent there and they have good aircraft. 5 newer 172 SP's, three older 172's and an Arrow for the Comm CFI training. The staff there is very friendly and the Mx has rarely been a factor. If there is a problem, they get on it and get it fixed. Prices are about 112 per for an SP. Not sure on the Arrow, though I think it is about 115 or so. Instructors are about 42??? I did my Biannual there in December, but I can't find my invoice to tell ya for sure. Nice airport with a very good tower crew. Hope this helps.

The drive between Mesa/Tempe to Glendale - give it a good hour to 1.5 depending on time of day!

Your not wrong..... Wow are we becoming LA East with our traffic. The Az Republic had someone predicting almost 10 million for the Phx Metro area by 2020..... That'll be great for the traffic situation.
