Hey guys, This is my first post here at Jetcareers and I think you guys rock. I'm in High School still but I'm planning on becoming an airline pilot one day. I have been looking over schools for some time now and I think I might have found a decent school. The place is called NationalPilotsAcademy. Their program seems promising -www.nationalpilotacademy.com check it out and tell me what you think. The price isn't listed on the site but, I called them and found out that it’s about 56,500 for o-1,100 hours in just 16 months. During these 16 months you obtain all your certificates needed to be a regional pilot. Also, the flight training you get transfers to 30 college credits at the nearby UTAH VALLEY STATE COLLEGE. Well I think this place seems great but, since you guys are the PRO’s tell me what you think. -Thanks in advance O ya I forgot to mention that it is a one on one training (just you and your instructor) for 8 hours, six days a week. |

Uhhh, I hope this is flamebait or something, but it'll be nice to be the 2nd post in a 10 page long thread. Don't spend all your time rush rush rushing to a regional job. Flying should be enjoyable, and by making it a chore early on, when it becomes a chore later, it'll be that less enjoyable. Being a "regional pilot" isn't the greatest gig in the world (from what I've heard first hand) and trying to get to that level quickly is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Go to a real college. Get a real degree. Fly on the side. Aviation degrees are worth less than toilet paper... because toilet paper doesn't scratch as much. |

The big thing is to definitely go to college and get a degree. Most of the airlines require a 4 yr degree. And it isn't $56k for 1,100 hours of flight time. It's $56k to get everything up to your CFI. Then you have to instruct to build your time to 1,100. You should really go and visit several flight schools to get an idea of what is out there. |

Is there anything else besides flying you would enjoy enough to major in? A good backup or additional area of interest will serve you better than a degree in aviation.

I looked at their website. What is it they are doing that appels to you? You could go to any busy school and get your ratings quickly and many schools are aligned with USVC. Don't listen to the claims of special deals with airlines or "guaranteed jobs". They mean nothing. It's marketing hype that tends to make me discount the credibility of the school. To answer your question, though, I've never heard of the place nor known anyone who went there. Where do you live? Have you checked to see if ATP is located nearby. Mazzei in Fresno, CA is a school that I've heard good things about. Skymates in TX, same thing. |

I currently live in cally but I'll be moving to colorado in a year in a half. I don't mean to be rude but whats so special about ATP. I have heard different opinons about it but i went to the site and it seems just OK. Please explain why everyone wants to go there or why they are better than everyone else. I just visited their website and for the full package they offer (private,Airline Career Pilot Program,Airline Transition Program) is $78,985 not to mention you still need a college degree. Now to me that seems way over priced comepared to 56,500 w/o college don't you agree?

Don't judge a school by it's website, that's rule number one. ATP is known as a place that gets the job done. It's a big school with a solid reputation though the system doesn't work for everyone. Mazzei and Skymates websites are even less impressive than ATP but both schools are have a good following at this site. That means a lot more to me than a fancy website. |

It used to be a really good deal and set you up with what you need to get a job in this industry. What I think most people miss though is that the only job you can really get when you finish is a CFI job. This is the perfect way to continue to build time and keep learning. Lately it seems that people want to by-pass that route and just fly to meet mins and jump into a regional job. ATP even offers a way around CFIing too for another boatload of money. To me, the school you linked looks pretty good but since it is brand new (i think) it may have a lot of kinks to work out and what if they can't work out those kinks while they have all your money. Guess who gets the ATA treatment. ATP is no where near as good of a deal as it used to be, the price has nearly doubled since I started looking at it a few years ago, but it is still one of the better deals around. My advice: Get your degree at the best univesity that you can get in to, while you are there work on your private and build time. Maybe during one of the summers do the ATP 90 day program and you can get a CFI job building time while you are still in school. After you graduate with a good degree, if you still like the flying thing and if the climate is good, keep building time and apply for that regional job. If the industry is still in the toilet, fly for fun and get a real job using your degree. If you go to a real University you will have probably found a fly honey that you care more about than a $18,000 flying job anyway. Just my advice though, But that school does look promising though, I would like to hear more about them if you have any more info. How much multi time do you get there? What kind of planes are they flying? Are they new? Old? If you don't get that regional job after their program do they give you a refund? Do they just say sorry? |

Please Note: Housing costs are not included in the cost of flight training, but can be added to your loan. There is something right there that probably makes ATP a better option. I am sure they have some nice tie-ins with local apartment companies. |

The academy can only grantee a job as a flight instructor because they hire you to train some of the newer students while you gain more flight time also.
