Ok, so I am set to come down in May for the 100 hr timebuilding. Can someone give me the low-down on how things usually happen? In my mind I imagine flying from 8pm-1 am or so 5 or 6 nights a week. during the day I will spend some time studying or whatever, enjoying the beach, working out, etc. Does this sound pretty typical or am i way off? also, Id really like to spend a couple days flying during the day to get to see key west and the everglades. Also, I am requesting to live in one of the houses or apartments. How close to the beach? How are the facilities? anyone going down around that time looking for a flying partner? thanks

Flying is, the majority of the time, between 6pm-6am 7 days a week. You will sometimes get a couple day flights, but no often because the airplanes are training all day. If you plan on doing some long nights (8-10 hours) you will NOT get back until about 4/5am...The thing about timebuilding is you're so tired that by the time you wake up, eat something, watch a 30 minute TV show, and you have to get ready to go fly again. It feels like thats all you do. Our apartments are very nice, you'll be comfy. Houses are 7 mintues from the Beach...Our building is small, but it does us just fine... Have a safe trip...

Smittey since nobody responded to my other post can ask you some quick questions as far as housing is concerned. The way I understand it there's the apartments(off airport), the houses(off airport), and the old Pan Am housing(on airport). My question is do you get to choose where you live. Also how many students choose to live on their own away from the provided housing.

Smittey is right about the timebuilding. You come back really late and by the time you wake up, its time to go fly again. I get to the airport around 5pm to flightplan and preflight and fill up gas. Fly to a few places, comeback, fill up gas, file, get back around 2am or 3am, feel like you flew for 12hours (since Im soloing the duchess, it feels a lot longer) but you only flew for 5hrs. Go to sleep, wake up and its noon, go workout, shower, eat, and back flying again. It blows, but yet I kinda like it. Gonzo, Mike has two housing complexes. One in Vero Beach, about 10 minutes to the north, 3 people to a house. The other one is the Pan Am one. I got to choose when I first got here. Its really whats available, but usually the timebuilders get the Pan Am. I use to live in Vero housing but I moved out and found an apartment with another student. There a few students that dont live in housing, but a majority live in the housing. |

I cannot speak for the Vero housing, but the PanAm stuff is VERY convienient...seriously, it's great. Huge room, desk, bed, own bathroom/shower. Wireless internet at PanAm...little shaky and unreliable at times, but it comes back and its not a problem. When the internet goes down, it gives you an excuse to study. And in cruise, over Ocala...in the dark...cold...and JAX Center isn't saying anything makes you really despise timebuilding.

Thanks guys. I cant tell you how psyched I am to do this. As far as that schedule "blowing"....hell naw. that kinda thing is right up my alley. Ill be all over it. I am assuming they allow you to take a night off here and there? I am also gonna need to leave for 3 days to fly back to DC for a wedding. bad timing but its the only way i could make this work. how far a drive is pbi from fpr? thats where my flight is out of. pbi-iad-pbi.

I have been reading these posts because I am interested in Ari Ben flight school. I am a commercial pilot and want to find out about the 100 hour timebuilding program
