Well, after a few delays in getting things ready here I should be heading down that way this week. I was thinking on Tuesday, however looking at the weather and the fact that I already anticipate a 12-hour drive, I'm thinking about waiting until Wednesday when the weather is nicer. I got persuaded to stick around here for Thanksgiving, but that was nice and I got a couple of things done here I didn't think I would be able to. I'll be doing a finish up on my PPL there, then signing up for the Professional Pilot program. Getting the PPL done here was getting to be a nightmare, and although I know it's impossible to know just when a person is going to have something happen in their lives and set you back some, eventually I just wanted to get out of here and finish it and get started on the next step. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to meeting you! Well, back to packing! Catherine |

"Getting the PPL done here was getting to be a nightmare" I was just thinking back on how nice it was to be able to do my flight training at a slow pace and while I was between 17 and 20 years old. Circumstances dictate that not everyone can do it that way but it was more stress free and enjoyable, I think. Good luck |

LMAO.....well, yes I guess it's pretty obvious where I'm going now supercell! ![]() I'm finishing the last bit of packing up tonight to drive out first thing in the morning....I'm looking forward to the drive for the most part as I love to travel and my car is very comfortable and long-legged. I'm just finishing up now on the computer before I shut it down and haul it down to the car....I can't live without a computer...lol. I've not been away from one for more than a couple of weeks I'd guess in the last 20 years (yes I started quite young!). I certainly didn't mind a bit slower pace when I was that age either, but I'm getting quite a few years of experience being 21 and after a couple of other things I wanted to do just weren't working, I looked back to flying and found a way to do it, so taking my time at this stage isn't fun to me anymore. I've taken enough time to get my PPL...my first physical was in 1991!!!! |

All-righty, time for my update! I'm here! Been here for about 10 days now and have one last little requirement to finish up for my PPL checkride aside from just sharpening my skills a bit and learning the area so I don't get too lost when I take the checkride. I am now doing dial-up to a local number for my ISP from the new apartments at the airport, the wireless here doesn't go through the walls well...nor do cell phones or scanners...but hopefully the Internet will be fixed soon as they are putting in a couple of new wireless routers closer to my room. As is normal with my luck, after a few nice days of getting in two flights a day, we had a bunch of high winds and low clouds come through and although I flew once this morning, another quick shot of clouds and a touch of rain are coming through tonight. My instructor called me to get a go/no-go for the night cross country tonight and I said no-go because of what the weather looked like was coming....just when we were supposed to be back...the new ATIS showed about 1000 overcast....glad we didn't try for it tonight after all. But the PPL checkride is getting close, doing lots of studying and reading and meeting some people here, but probably not as much of that as I'd like as I'm trying to read the PPL books here completely again for my checkride, study the FAR/AIMs and get settled in all at the same time. I knew most of it but the studying doesn't hurt, so I'm doing it all again anyway and learning some new stuff along the way. I've got Chris as my instructor and he's been great....a good teacher and as we're somewhat similar in age we can relate to a lot of the same things. I'm actually quite happy about living here at the airport, night operations are pretty much over by the time I head to bed and don't really get going until I'm already awake anyway, so that's not an issue for me. I'm actually 50% or so closer to the mall, Wal-Mart, grocery stores, etc. here than the last 2 places I've lived, so that's nice as is the 1/2 mile trip to the Ari-Ben building here at the airport. I've taken about 25 or so pictures with my digital camera so far, hoping to do more soon and if I can get time I'll post them up for everyone to see. One of the weirdest things I'm getting used to here is how FLAT it is. I'm used to doing ground reference maneuvers and having to watch out so I don't get too close to the nearest mountain that's towering over me! Heck, even a lot of the higher up manuevers don't take you up as high as several of them go....so it's weird here to look down over all of the ground just a few moments after liftoff. Everybody has helped me out down here and said hello and so far it's been great! A big Hello to all of you JC'ers that I've met here! Looking forward to meeting more of you and trying to remember your names! Back to studying!!!! Catherine |

Wow....lots of interested parties in those pictures! Cool! I'm finally on high-speed internet and Friday morning is my PPL Checkride as it stands right now, so if that goes well I'll be just studying multi-PPL stuff and doing some backseating where I can watch how things are done to prepare for that when I get back after a week at home for Christmas...try to get some more then. I'll post a link as soon as I have them up! Just don't expect any fancy web pages! Wow....you really will have a change out here Mountain Flying! It's REALLY, REALLY flat. The mountains where I was went up to about 6,500 and that's just over half of what yours are! Where are you starting when you get here? Time-building, Pro-Course, etc???? L8R....gotta go get ready for my morning flight! Catherine |

Will be coming down to do the Pro Crouse, in end of january 2006... 2006 !!! seems weird writting that LOL, but ya should be good I hear a lot of complaints on wheather and matinenance, try flying in like a foot of snow where you have to pull the battery and drain the oil everynight haha, cant be all that bad, but ya we have tons of mountains everywhere so it makes forced landings, canyon position, and every aspect of flying pretty intense at lower altitudes. Im looking forward to the flat lands where I dont have to spend a hour to de ice the plane every morning...

I know....2006 sounds weird....I always have fun with people this time of year when I know it will be into the next year when I see them again....I tell them "see you next year!" and they take a few seconds to realize it....lol Yikes! I've not ever had to go that far to pre-flight! Got my night cross country in Tuesday night....wow, that was awesome! We got to see neighborhoods full of Christmas lights as PBI Departure directed us out of the area. Today is my last flight before I take my checkride, going to go up and practice my soft field landings (I played too many aircraft carrier landing games growing up I think!) and just kind of make sure I'm in the groove...PPL checkride tomorrow morning! I am hoping the weather tomorrow is like it is so far this morning and was yesterday morning! Catherine |
