I really want to attend Ari-Ben and just get started as soon as possible with my airline career. I'm going into my Junior year and have spoken with people from Florida Atlantic University about finishing up my final 36 credit hours in Janurary there while going and getting all my certifications and liscense. Does anyone have advice on doing two things at once and or during your time there and instructing was it possible to do other things? I really have heard great things and thinking air ben in the place for me but I'm just unsure if waiting is a good choice or if starting as soon as possible is the best option out there. Any advice would be great.

Hi, Good to see that you're not that far from your degree. I'm doing the training and actually taking online class from ERAU myself, about 40 hrs away. To be honest, I think doing the degree and flying at the same time is hard. Even with 2 classes and i'm not even working. What I think might be good is to either finish your college; or start your training, and set goal for the rating for semester break(private, instrument, etc.) Might be better that way to concentrate on one thing at a time. Hope this helps. |

I was thinking about getting all my ratings below ATP done and then finishing college. Is that a bad idea?

no, not at all. Embry Riddle gives you like 35 (im not 100% sure on that) credits for all your certificates and ratings up to Instructor Ratings. Its each persons personal preferance on what path they take. My past instructor, he has like almost 1500hrs total time, and 1200hrs Multi time. He can basically get a job at any of the regionals right. Well, he decides he wants to go to college and finish his bachlors first, before he goes to the regionals, that way he can enjoy the flying and not have to worry about the books. Me,.... I wanna fly, and I figure ill get the degree later (hopefully in this lifetime).Ivan |

36 hours left, that's a year give or take. My advice is to finish the degree, then go gung-ho on all your ratings and that is all you will have to worry about! You don't get those college years back and it should be the best time of your life.

The way I see it... it may be my best option because right now, I live on my own and I have to work fulltime. It will take me forever to get my Bachelors Degree. At least this way, I'll be logging flight hours while I get my degree... |
