I am looking to rent a Cessna 172 out of this airfield soon. Can anyone shed some light on an FBO with decent rental rates and a reasonable check out? thanks in advance. |

The best on the field IMHO is the Plus One Flyers flying club. They are very well run. I learned to fly in their planes. Go to: http://www.plusone.org |

I have to second Plus One... Depending on how soon you want to rent one of their 172s, you'll need to do a little prelim paperwork with them. There's only certain times of the month to attend their new pilot meeting. After that, you'll need to find a club CFI to check you out. Once that's done you get a key to every the aircraft (from the 152's to the 182's-Mooney, Cirrus, and Duchesses) in the club that you can keep on your keyring. This can take a bit of effort to get it all lined up. I'd line up a CFI for the afternoon of the new pilot meeting before you go to the new pilot meeting. Go to the meeting, get into the system, sked any available 172 after you're in the system, I think you get the idea of the logisitics involved... I had withdrawal symptoms when I had to turn my key in... |

I don't know, but there's a smoking hot chick working as a CFI somewhere on that field. I can't remember her name; met her at an interview. If you find our her name, let me know. I'd love to find out what she's up to. She had long dark hair, was about 5'6" and svelte. Gorgeous. Sorry I can't help with the FBO. |

Plus One is also the most expensive club on the field, both for the annual membership and the hourly rates. Take a look at the Armed Forces Flying Club--economic conditions caused them to open up membership to anyone, and they charge tach time, not Hobbs. I was a member of the club that starts with an S (the club where two of the 9/11 terrorists trained) and Consair Flyers. I won't recommend club "S" for maintenance reasons, but Consair's airplanes are maintained well ('cept for maybe 733UC, I'm told the owner puts off things longer than he should). 4625G is a great airplane, I put about 15 hrs on it after the owner of the '97 172 sold it off to another operation on the field. There were a couple of hot CFIs operating out of Gibbs when I was down there, a blonde and a redhead. I'm sure they're on at some regional someplace by now. When checkride time comes, you absolutely positively want to fly with Steve Amoia. Steve is an AA 737 capt and a "big picture" sort of DE that even MikeD would approve of. Don't even give flying with the other ones a thought. |

Count your blessings in San Diego. The flying club here in Charlotte http://www.flycarolina.com is a $300 joining fee with a monthly fee of $200, $250, or $350 a month depending on which planes you are flying. So depending on which level you join at, your first check to the club is at least $500. And the prices are all dry. One half of the monthly fee does go toward rental time though if you so choose. |

I heard Plus One is good at MYF. Wings Over California was a small flight school that closed their doors with no warnings! So keep your eyes open.
