I don't know if anyone from PanAm frequents this forum anymore. I believe they found it a rather hostile environment....

It wasnt mentioned at the seminar, but would you expect them to? I am still waiting for their updated website to reflect the new "Module Programs" that the seminar highlighted. Maybe they have to close Fla in order to implement it, but I don't see what one would have to do with the other.

I guess it would depend on the amount of hurricane damage they suffered. If it was more than they would make re-opening, it would be a better decision to close FL and concentrate on AZ.

I checked the company website and Ft pierce is no longer mentioned. I know that that hurricane last year really hurt the campus. thats too bad if it closes

No? |

Hey Y'all, Current PanAm stud here, and yes, the rumor is true. It was announced at a student meeting yesterday (4-4-05) at 4pm. The reason given is that the hurricane forecast for this year is even worse than last year, so they're going to consolidate everything to Phoenix. There's probably more to it, but they're sticking to that reason. Over the next few weeks, they plan to meet with each student individually. Lots of stressed people at PanAm right now, studs and instructors. |

"The reason given is that the hurricane forecast for this year is even worse than last year" Really. Hurricane forcast. I didn't know Hurricane forcasts were so accurate. Maybe they should just close down the whole state to be on the safe side. I just flew the whole length of Arizona today at FL400. It's a really pretty place from about 6000 MSL and up. Also stayed at a hotel in Ahwatchee and found out the Cactus Jacks stays open until 2am. Can't wait tell my next layover down there in May. |

"Maybe they should just close down the whole state to be on the safe side." Oh wait.... I checked the PanAm site and their locations at Vero Beach, Orlando, and Miami won't be impacted by the hurricane forcast. Thank gawd it's just Ft. Pierce and not the rest of Florida. So I checked the PanAm sites "news archive and industry spotlights". Guess the base closing isn't newsworthy yet since it's not mentioned, though it's true that Ft. Pierce no longer is an option for the career pilot development program. At the FAQ's link is says "coming soon". LC? Flying Turkey? The silence is deafening.... |

What's then going to happen to the IP numbers? Are we looking at layoffs? How many will be willing to relocate from FL to AZ?

I was supposed to go climb some mountain with my Mesa buddy, he said it would only take a couple of hours. He bailed on me the night before because of some little thing...he had to go to his UPS pre-employment physical.

That means less traffic at FPR! No more waiting in line number 15 for the runway! ![]() (And yes, the AriBen guys are smiling) |

from a former senior management person at FPR - i can assure you that closing this campus has long been in the plans. any assurances by senior mgmt otherwise are BS just to calm the masses. they've been taking money from students for over a year, knowing that they would shut the campus.

"...closing this campus has long been in the plans. any assurances by senior mgmt otherwise are BS just to calm the masses. they've been taking money from students for over a year, knowing that they would shut the campus." Well. If PanAm claims to want to train airline pilots the way airlines operate (my quote, not their's), then, they are certainly measuring up to the finest of airline management tactics. |

There are no plans to shut down ops at FlightSafety for "forecast" hurricanes. Actually, they will soon start to demolish the hangar and start building newer facilities. There are plenty of instructors...too many actually, but you won't have to worry about not having one as a student. Also, the airplanes are the same newly built Seminoles Pan Am students are used to flying. If you haven't already, give marketing a call, and they can set you up on the tour. Doug has a nice linky at the top, but I'll make it easy: 1-800-800-1411 And yeah, I am an alumnus FlightSafety CFI .

Don't even have to go out on US-1, just take Saint Lucie Boulevard out of the airport and turn into Ari-Ben...same training about 75% less what you would spend at Pan Am...and about 1/3 of what you would pay at Flight Safety. Everyone forgets Ari-Ben is on the field with PanAm.

[ QUOTE ] So what's going to happen to the IPs? Move or stay to AZ? Anyone? [/ QUOTE ] I think about 2/3 of the instructors plan on moving to Phoenix. As for me, I'm leaning toward FSI, possibly Aviator to finish my training. Any advice on which school? Any thoughts on Direct Track vs. Flight instructor at FSI? |
