I have been interested in attending Ari-Ben for a while now, looking to do the VA course. I am in the Air National Guard, serving one weekend a month. My dillema is that I live on the West coast, and if I was to attend Ari Ben, I would have to commute back and forth once a month. Flying commercial or even driving could get very expensive. Anyone have any suggestions on what my best option is?

I used to be with the Hawaii Air National Guard. What I did, was, I asked my Commander if I could go to this flight school. Well, since we were activated since 911 (for almost two years), he had NO problem in authorizing me to come here. So, I came here for about six months (Aug. - Dec.), then I decided to maybe switch to Florida Air National Guard. I went home for Christmas and outprocessed from my unit. When i came back, i found out there is no unit within like 250 mile of where im at. Sure, theres Patrick Air Force base, but no Security Forces (guard) unit. So, Im on a ready reserve status. NOT having to do my one weekend a month and two weeks active a year. And LOVING every minute of it. ![]() I still get VA benefits. Best advice i can give you.... If your planning on going back after your training is done, ask your Commander for a leave of absence.... If your NOT planning on going back and want to work here as a CFI, then outprocess from your unit. I do believe that you have to have been with your unit for 2 years to be able to do that. The VA pro course is awesome, you get to fly the Duchess (multi-engine) for 55 hrs SOLO (no instructor, no one else). I went through the VA pro course, if you have any questions, ill be happy to answer them for you. Hope that helps. Ivan |
