| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] **40 Hours Total Flight time (C152) $2.798.00 [/ QUOTE ] Add some to that. I've never met someone that actually finished their private at minumums. I'm sure they exist, they're just not the norm. [ QUOTE ] Flight medical $40.00 [/ QUOTE ] Where is THIS guy, and does he have any openings? Seriously, I got my 1st class for $65, and that's a good deal.[ QUOTE ] Private pilot kit $298.99 Private ground school DVD $109.95 [/ QUOTE ] Unless the school requires it, try to avoid buying a "kit." You can find pretty much the same stuff on e-bay for a lot less. [ QUOTE ] INSTRUMENT PILOT LESSONS [/ QUOTE ] Those hour figures are probably pretty close. You can shave some $$ off by finding a buddy, though. You need 40 hours of "hood time," and that doesn't HAVE to be with an instructor. Throw in some x/c time with your buddy, and you kill two birds with one stone. Everything else looks like it's based on minimum flight times. The CFI stuff really doesn't have a minimum, but 10 hours is about average. Although, I think I'd go NUTS flying a 152 for 120 hours...... |

| Back in August my practical was $200, so that figure on there is a little old. And if I can recall the practical for my multi was $250, so we're catching up on the times up here... ![]() And if anyone wants to fly a 150 I can get a lease rate for $25/Hr but its not legal for IFR, bummer. |

I think it usually takes somewhere in the 50 to 60 hour range though. I had alot of time to study only taking 4 classes in high school but i guess its just different for some. I thought 40 hours was pretty much the norm until i read some stuff. Also, that 152 sounds a little high on the rate, should be more around $60 or so. Good luck with your ratings! |

| Old Skool | 152 rate here in MEM is $85/hr. But that's obscene. You don't want to know what they charge for a 172S. |

That's way up there, I'm paying $62/tach hour in a flying club I'm in. The 172's are $84 for the normal one and $88 for the 180 superhawk. $85/hr for a 152, thats unbelievable, is that because of the price of avgas or is that just the going rate up there. |

| Old Skool | That's b/c the school is pretty much the only game in town, so they can charge whatever they want. The Seneca is $195/hr and (you'll LOVE this) the 172S is $133/hr. |

| Here is are the rates from G&B.It does seem cheaper.Flight Instruction is more but the aircraft rate is better. So what do you think about these rates. Instruction is 36 per hour ground school is 300$ or 25$ per each class 3 hour session Piper Cherokee $65 Piper Archer $95 Cessna older model of 172 $74-80 Cessna newer model of 172 $153 Cessna 152 $60 |

| Old Skool | Dude, $153 for a 172 is insane. You can get a twin for that in some areas. A fancy GPS and leather interior should not give FBOs free reign to rip people off like that. $36/hr for instruction is about standard in a lot of places. I think that's the going rate for flight schools in Orlando right now. As far as "ground school," in a Part 61 environment, I've never seen a use for a formalized ground school. You can learn as much from one-on-one ground lessons with your instructor and a book than you can in a formal ground school. |

| there's a local school up here in western new yourk that charges $170.00 for dual instruction in a "new" 172.(its a pretty beat up "new" 172) them- plane cost: $120.00 CFI cost: $50/hour CFI pay: $14/hour us- 2001 Warrior III (dual garmin 430): $107.00/hr CFI cost: $35/hour CFI pay: $23-26/hour IMHO that other school is just wrong for how they operate not such a bad thing for us though, a bunch of their students left them after the price increase and came up to us. i guess the school hooked itself up with UTAH VALLEY online college and decided to raise the rates like crazy. these UTAH VALLEY kids get those $80,000 Key loans and don't realize they have to pay it back at some point, and this school takes advantage of that. |

| I don't know about your area but you better be a skinny kid to do a checkride in a 152. DPEs around here don't come in the small size and they make you do a weight and balance. ;-) |

| I would only use the $79 dollar C-172.Yes I'm a skinny 19 year old. 5'10 125 pounds and yes I eat a lot.Is $79 an hour a good price for a 172.If anybody knows any good flight schools in SLC tell me. |

| Senior Member | [ QUOTE ] Is $79 an hour a good price for a 172? [/ QUOTE ] Seeing how my school charges $83/hr. for our older models (1980's), yes it sounds good to me. Depends on how old the aircraft is and what kind of equipment it has. |

| Old Skool | AeroSmith KMRB Martinsburg, WV 1978 Cessna 172N -- $70/hr wet 1982 Cessna 172P -- $70/hr wet Instructor -- $30/hr $100 dual. This is where I got my private. Valley Aviation KOKV Winchester, VA Valley Aviation Two Cessna 152s -- $55/hr wet Cessna 172 N w/ Garmin 430 GPS -- $75/hr wet Piper Cherokee 140 -- $75/hr wet Cessna 172RG -- $95/hr wet Aeronca Champ -- $60/hr wet Instructors -- $30/hr $35/hr Champ $105 dual roughly Come on down, the staff is awesome! Online scheduling is sweet. I came here to get some low-wing time, also checked out in their 172/152s. Aircraft are well maintained. Even though I'm only 23 (supposed to be a part of the technology-driven generation), I love flying older planes w/o GPS, esp. when they're cheaper. Getting to fly the 172 w/ the Garmin 430 for only $75/hr is great. |

I have one hour in a 152, and that was my discovery flight at DCA (then Comair Academy). I didn't learn until about six months later that we were more than likely overgrossed when we took off..... |
