This post is aimed at all CFIs currently at the Aviator: After searching this forum, I found that one of your CFIs said he was averaging a monthly wage of circa $400. How do you guys manage to live off of such meager pay? I know the multi time is a big plus but how is it possible to survive? Are you working another job on the side? I'm very interested in the pro course Ari-Ben offers and in taking advantage of the chance to instruct after finishing up. I'd really appreciate any info you could give me pertaining to the above question. PM me if you want. Thanks! |

I try not to post on here unless I see some wrong information. Flight instructors right now are flying anywhere between 80-140 hours per month. They get paid 10-15 dollars per flight hour. If you train a VA student you will be getting paid for ground as well.

I suppose I should have clarified that a little. The $400 was for 40 hours of dual given. The post I got the info from was over a year old, too. It could have just been an off month or two. 80 to 140 hours per month does sound better.

$400/month is note accurate. A slow month (back in my days) was 60 hours of multi. As Ari mentions, wages have increased.

What is the pay based off, hours flown per month, or exp. or somthing like that? What would you have to do to make $15 an hour instead of $10? Sorry, I had just heard a while back that all the instructor pay was raised to $15 an hour, maybe I misunderstood. |

ATP pays you a base salary of $1000/mo, and you get incentives for each one of your students that passes their checkrides. And, ATP will rent you out one of their apartments for $200/mo while you're instructing for them.

Instructors get paid $10/hr for students that signed up prior to the decmber price increase and $15 for those that signed up after that increase. There are very few students left who signed up before that increase so the wages would definitely be $15 per hour for someone who would be coming in to the pro course at this time.
