Hello there, I just joined this forum and figured it would be a good place to get some info. It already helped me with deciding between PEA and Aviator. I had already toured aviator and had my mind set on going there, but still had some doubts as to the quality of their training, and had a relative telling me what a great school PEA was from his experience with them. Well, now that I've finally decided on aviator for good (start second week in june), I was hoping somebody could give me and idea as to how much $$$ I should borrow. I've been putting off applying for the loan because I wasn't sure how much would be enough, without beign excessive. If the price they quoted me is $34,975 (before increase), how much should I add on to that to cover any additional hours. If anyone can give me some info from experience, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Call TJ, she can give you the "goods" on what most students require. Depends on where you live....Aviator housing is included in the first 3 months. Utilities are all included. If you get your own place, the scenario changes. Don't worry about going over time, you won't. |

I'm doing the Veteran's pro-course, in which for some reason housing is not included . Not an issue though, I was paying for housing out of pocket, my main concern was wether or not I was ultimately going to need the extra $$$ for flying. I guess I can add like 2K for the books, tests, and checkrides. Thanks for the info.

It's going to cost me $34,975 (without private), but I think with the recent price increase it's up to $37,500. Still a great deal

That's the price I got from Mike Cohen when I visited a few months ago. The $29.5K is for the non VA pro-course, big difference due to the fact that IR, ME, and COMM ratings have to be completed part 141 (higher minimums) due to VA requirements. If anyone got a cheaper quote let me know, so I can get in on the deal.

Oh- sorry, I don't know anything about the VA prices, I thought that was the quote you got for the regular pro-course.

No problem, I was hoping you were more up to date than I was because your #'s sound better. I had a brain fart on my first post, I'm starting there 1st week of august not june, not unless I can travel back in time or something .

I certainly don't want to give you false information, however the $34,975 you will be paying (while in the VA program) will be partially refunded by Uncle Sam. After each successful checkride (VA approved course), you will be reimbursed. Should memory serve me correctly, all instructor ratings are actually less expensive when not utilizing the VA program. For that reason they are not part 141. So in the end, you should be paying considerably less than the $34,975. I imagine that Mike was quoting you the cost of the entire program (minus the VA reimbursemnts). The VA program also requires that the student fly solo in the Duchess for 55hrs. This is a tremendous benefit. Some VA students have done some serious X/C's. The VA program is considerably more costly to the school because of the increased paperwork and solo flights. I would imagine this would contribute to the higher course cost. Disclaimer here........ |

Yes, you are right that's the price before I get reimbursed. The total out of pocket for any VA guys should be around $18,600 after the uncle gives us some of the $$ back.

Draglink, I'm looking into flight schools and Ari-Ben is one of them and I'm using my VA benefits. I would like to start around the beginning of next year /05. Have you made you decision yet on which school to attend? |
