Default Does your SO love/tolerate/dislike flying?

How does your significant other feel about flying? In my case, I've loved aviation for so long now that I can't see being with anyone but a fellow pilot who shares my passion.

I would pull my hair out if my wife was a pilot. When I leave work everyday I do NOT want to go home and hear more aviation talk!

My wife is the only adult supervision I get. I think if I had a wife that shared that much we would not be together.

Mine likes going flying with me, but has no interest at all in learning how to. Just along for the ride. Giggity.

On the first attempt a couple of years ago I had to shut down immediately after start to let her out. Just too nervous.

Finally got her in the air last fall, and it's really nice to have her go along. She still gets nervous, but then chills out after a while.

She also has Principles of Flight, 172RG V speeds, and most the FOI down cold.

I have a question for those of you who say your SO is terrified of flying. Is she/he afraid of flying commercially as well, or just with you piloting the aircraft? (I find it fascinating that more than one of you had the same response.)

My wife loves flying and would have it no other way than becoming a CFI herself one day.

My wife finds airplane talk quite boring, and mentaly phases out of the conversation if me and another pilot start to talk aviation for more than one minute. When I was flying small GA aircraft she had no problems going flying with me and always liked the view. Of course now she loves the non rev bennies too.

My question is does your SO understand the large amounts of time this profession takes? Mine loves to go flying but hates that I am gone so much because of flying.

Yes, commercially as well. She had to fly on an Eagle 145 a while back to dallas, it was rather cute hearing her so distressed.

My wife is in the healthcare field and there's very little aviation talk at home - I kind of like it that way - I get to leave work at work so to speak. She's finnicky of flying, even in large a/c. We went to Narita last December and she gets nauseous pretty quickly when down low in even light turbulence.

My BF is retired from FSS, so he has an interest in aviation and can actually read my schedule when I email it to him. It's very helpful and I get my own personalized professional weather briefing wherever I go without having to dial the phone and be placed on hold, haha! Although he doesn't fly, I love that he asks me so many questions about flying, especially when we non-rev.

He's proud of what I do, and that's so important to me!

My husband is only interested in aviation from the upgrading-getting-there-on-time-and not-losing-luggage standpoint, but supports me completely in what I do

Thumbs down Re: Does your SO love/tolerate/dislike flying?

My wife dislikes flying very much!!! Makes me mad because instead of flying for 2 hours to see my grandparents, she'd rather let me drive for 8 hours for the trip. Eventually I will go flying without here because she doesn't like me driving fast either.

mine has been the best sport. she knew what she was getting into when she married me (maybe she didn't), but she got the best rock star date on our 5th date - a flight to Niagara Falls for dinner.

The next flight I took her 15 minutes to Trenton.

She always has found it amusing listening to me call in for a weather briefing.

But, she's been a sport through the term of not working. All in all, a good find!

Ex disliked flying. Only night flights - no turbs, at all, never, ever...

Share the point about a flying SO the OP made - but find that utterly hard to accomplish in these times because ego's and mindsets must be somewhat similar to make it work. A good relationship, or even a friendship requires a certain commitment on each part. Thats a lot to ask, in a world where everything is instant, now and just about the other person... and old school is so terribly out... Don't waste your time looking for a flying SO. Look for the right person.

My wife loves to fly with me, she hates landing though...no reason, honestly, just does. She has no interest in learning to fly, she just likes to ride shotgun and hates driving. She also loves that I'm a pilot. No worries here.

Thinks that I chose the most boring career ever and will not even set foot in the plane because she has better things to do. I might need to get a new one, I think this one is broken.

My girlfriend is probably the most supportive person i've ever met. All she asks is that i make an effort to go see her when i can and never break our trust. After a previous horrible relationship those requests are easy. Life is too short to be with someone that doesn't support you.
My current job throws us a curve ball usually once a month plus commuting cross country with only one jumpseat agreement doesn't help things.

I've been trying to get Matt to take me up, just for the view! I think that would be awesome!! But in general, as long as he is happy with it, so am I... I've gotten used to the aviation talk a bit, ( it's easy to tune out and pick up the iPhone to keep me entertained) and him being gone alot. Over all, if it wasn't for him flying, we would have never met. So, at the very least I tolerate it.
