My stratagey when I get home and get the "Uhh....yeah....you disrupted my flow", is I get my screw up out of the way. Then what ever is torquing her up, I provide a convenient source to direct the anger.

The remainder of the time at home is then drama-free.

Luckily, this only happens in a blue moon for me. I haven't got the "Well, I'm pregnant, and I have to watch the boy while you're in Korea" speech yet.

So you 'knock it out' off the bat. Hmm, that's an idea! Unless I'm interpreting that wrong!

You can't interpret it wrong. There's only two ways to resolve the situation. The fun way, and...

The hard way. There are some times you just have to get your ass-chewed. We all know when it's coming, there's that vibe. Sometimes you're at home, you're going to get an ass-chewing. I think to myself, "Self, do you want 3-4 days of eggshells, or do you want to get it out of the way now?" I usually take the just get it over way. So I say something dumb. For example, you drink Miller Lite. Of course being a good man, you can't let beer be left in the fridge before leaving. You ask to have some cheap, cold, domestic beer in the fridge when you get home. Naturally, it gets innocently forgotten. You kindly ask, "I'm out of beer, did you remember to get me some?"

The natural response is the forthcoming ass-chewing. It usually involves stuff about you going out and not appreciating all the work around the house. Why do you not care about these things? Oh, and you didn't notice she got her hair done. Then you can have makeup sex, or just sleep it off, and go about your time at home.

Use the process. Step one: I'm sorry. Step 2: It's my fault Step 3: I understand why you're upset. Step 4: I won't do it again

There girls, you now know everything. I'm trying to help Doug, and I spill the beans.

A fellow pilot/flight attendant may understand the business, but for those of us women who aren't those things and love our pilot regardless, there are valuable resources out there for us so we can get a handle on it too. (here, jetgirls, etc.)

If a woman cuts it short with you because she doesn't like your occupation, then you don't need her anyway. You deserve a woman who falls in love with you and views where life is taking you as an adventure, not a stumbling block to her own success or stability.

You said that previously in life, dating and relationships came easy... well it takes a really special kind of woman to be willing to understand the lifestyle and they are out there. It just might take a little bit more work to find them...and that little bit of extra time til you find her will be well worth it! So, in the meantime, keep your chin up and enjoy where life is taking you... surely you shouldn't give up a dream just because the right woman hasn't walked into your life yet... give her a little more time! (maybe she's just washing her hair...)

Don't know if I agree with that or not. I am not married to a person in my field of study (Engineering). We both like that we are NOT in the same field or industry as we can listen and assist each other to events of the day/week/etc. but have different thoughts on it. I dates a girl (years ago) that worked in the same company as me, different department. All we seemed to talk about was problems at work, needless to say it didn't last long. Yes, I have learned more about the wife's industy and assist her some, and she understands mine more now too. The biggest thing is her being independant as I am gone alot. We move more then pilots and we have always worked through those issues, even when it means leaving the family behind for months at a time. Now I want to change that all up, go figure.

Honestly, this is the best advice... if I have learned anything about women it's the fact that the real advice about women usually do come from women, so listen up.

You might not be looking in the right places. I live in Atlanta, a friend of mine is involved in a singles group through a large non-denominational church. He signed up for an event on Sunday, 3 guys and 16 women. The odds in this city are surely in your favor, like one said, half of the guys in Atlanta are not looking for women anyway. (once again, not that there is anything wrong with that). Most of the women I know, (although I am chained to the porch) complain constatnly about not being able to find a good guy.

Just out of curiosity - are men who have "regular" jobs naturally more adept at handling the separation when their pilot or FA wives travel?

No idea.

It does, however, take a very independent spouse if one is a pilot/FA and the other isn't.

I do know a guy whose wife calls literally every two hours to her husband over in Europe about home stuff. It's kind of bizarre. Sitting having dinner, *ring!* *ring!* their son has locked themselves in his room and won't come out. A couple more hours *ring!* *ring!* doesn't know where the key to the shed is. *ring!* *ring!* the kids want to go out to pizza when you get home.

That would drive me off the wall!

Meaning you're already on the wall to start with?!

How long have they been married, and how does he react to those calls? Because it smells like a recipe for marital disaster.

Good point about the wall, my friend.

I have no idea how long they've been married but I'd suspect they weren't newlyweds. It was awkward for everyone involved so it had to awkward for him too. I've seen that before though.

Can you spell I-N-S-E-C-U-R-E? Either that, or he's on a very short leash for a good reason.
I had a male friend and an ex-boss who had to deal with that crap and the look of panic on their face when their phone rang was pathetic.

Eh, I make notes and save all that for one or maybe two conversations in a day. If I know he's got a really long day, or gets in super-late, I may not even talk to him at all for the day. Whatever, I remember how it sucked to get in after being delayed all day at 2am. The last thing anyone needs is their phone ringing with demands from home!

The most I'll do is send a text message here and there if it's something really note-worthy or that I think he may want to see right away. Texts are quick to send, quick to read and don't require immediate attention.

Calling constantly = annoying!
