| Old Skool | I drove my Dad's 1973 Porsche 911T a few times when he was teaching me how to drive a stick (I thought he was crazy for me to learn on that car). Now THAT is a vehicle right there. One day I'll own one....but for now I'm still stuck with that mini-van thing. Cheers John Herreshof |

No use getting a "Smokin' Deal" on a Porsche and then turning right around and selling it because of my insurance premiums. |

| Old Skool | Hey Doug, I am with you on the RX-7. that car is sweet! i almost bought that, but got smart and bought my gs-r. You can really run into a lot of problems with the rotary engine. I would get a used NSX. it turns heads, and its a blast to drive. My friend has the M3. I can explain it in 2 words....F'n nice!! But i hear BMW's start to have problems after while. They are said that the owner can expect the best 3 years an owner can have with a car, but after the first 3 years sell it. because its problems and its expensive as hell to fix. My friends family decided against BMW, and bought a Lexus, mainly because of maintainence. Its easier to repair a Toyota than it is a BMW. Have you looked at the Acura MDX? or the new lexus RX 330? -brian |

| Yesterday I drove my boss' 7 Series - that car is sweet. I felt like a pimp in it!!! I also drove an RTS-4 (or whatever the new chrystler is) it was a chrystler marketing car tricked out with everything: lowered, phat rims, body kit, exhuast, sound system, turbo, value release, racing seats, costum paint etc. It was packing about 300 hp, and would haul ass!! I even impressed a couple high school girls!!! It was a really fun car!! |

A major airline trusts you with the operation of several multimillion dollar aircraft, but an insurance company won't trust you with a $40k used car??? Somehow I don't imagine you would be the sterotypical teenage driver. I see a little injustice here if you ask me. I got a really good rate through Liberty Mutual on my car(s). They cover my 99 jeep my 89 sundance my house (with $100k insurance policy required for my dog) for 140$ a month. |

| [ QUOTE ] truth be known - we may be buying a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) 2002 BMW X5 cuz volvo dealers suck A** and want full MSRP for their XC90's....they don't even resale the same as Benz/BMW!! figured out we could purchase a 2002 X5 for *LESS* than a new XC90 AWD - and we wouldn't lose the "drive off the lot depreciation"... too bad - as much as I really want that volvo, i'm not paying MSRP!! maybe i'll get it in another lifetime eh?! ![]() [/ QUOTE ] I'm a satisfied owner of a 1993 Volvo 850, its been in the family ever since we owned it and it drives just as good as it did 10 years ago. Volvos are quality automobiles, lets hope the new influence Ford has on Volvo (Ford owns Volvo now) doesn't hurt Volvo quality. ![]() On another note, the reason why XC90's hardly ever sell below MSRP is because they are such a hit and are in big demand. The XC90 won a bunch of awards and supposedly is a really good SUV. I guess its just a simple matter of supply and demand. |

| Senior Member | European cars are nicer but more expensive in almost all areas, well you get what you pay for, Japanese cars are best in the relabilty area but are often still more expensive to repair than a domestic car. Give me some old Detroit steel they don't build cars like that anymore they will last forever compaired to today's desposable cars. On the insurance issue I know why rego is so cheap here cause the insurance is mega expensive, in Australia the rego for my Datsun was $500-600 but 3rd party fire & theft insurace was only $180. Hell, here I asked for an insurance quote for 3rd party only on a 82 Toyota Corolla and it was like $1200 pa, holy crap! I think I'll definatly be getting a bicycle when I get to FSA. |

The reliability of toyota and honda are untouchable. -Brian |

| Since I have to give up my current car to the 'rents so they can trade it in for a second (they are both retired as of Jan 1st), looks like I'm getting one of these in the next few days: Can't wait, it really is an awesome SUV, and not too expensive. Plus, insurance is low, which is a definite plus! |

| You guys have it all wrong, only a few good new cars made today, the best the Silverado. I wouldn't mind a new 3/4 ton Silverado 4x4 but that will have to wait a few years. MY 81 Chevy pickup with 374,000 miles and my 84 Chevy with 165,000 miles will have to keep on trucking for a while. Yeah japanese cars are better than American thats why my daily driver has almost 400k on it. |

| Old Skool | But for those of us that don't want to get 16 miles to the gallon then we need to get something else. GMC makes the best trucks in the world, but man I can't afford the gas to fill em up (a 100 mile commute is normal for me). Cheers John Herreshoff |

Oh well, got the nicest car at the flight school. Have to work my second job way way too much to afford it though. Anyways, I love the car. My aunt has the X5 and she loves it. Go for it!! |

| All I have to say is buy American. Get yourself a nice Lincoln Aviator or a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Seriously, buying imported products is not the way to help the economy right itself, and being the wife of someone whose job is largely dependent on the state of the economy, I'd hope you'd see that. The airline industry'd turn around in a heartbeat if everybody started buying only American-made products. |

| G.M. All the way, and who said you have to get under the back seat to jump the Caddys and Bonnies? You don't have to there is jumper connect spot under the hood, and it connects it to the battery. I love the Seville STS!! Oh and the Pearl white (which costs $2000 more) ![]() The Deville's "Cockpit" I like more. Isn't Cessna trying this trend in some of their cockpits? |

| I had a 1999 Heep Grand Chrerokee. It was a complete lemon. 34k miles/2yrs and the following problems occured: 3 fuel pumps transfer case replaced (still never worked correctly) 1 tranny (snap crackle pop, never worked well) 4 sets of brake pads. rebuilt front suspension, not exactly trail tested. paint problems and finally (I'm not making this up) warped front rotors that required "turning" or replacement 9 TIMES! On top of it all, Daimler Chrysler (God bless America, I mean Germany) stopped honoring its own 36k warranty. Rather than sign up for the numerous class-action lawsuits I just dumped it. I think they worked a lot of the bugs out of that car in later years, but it is still a Chrysler design and is at the bottom of its class in reliability. I bought a SAAB 900set. That was a fun car. If you've never driven one, you should try one out. We parted ways last summer and now I have a y2k Landcruiser. I miss the SAAB but the Landcruiser is an incredible vehicle. [ QUOTE ] All I have to say is buy American. Get yourself a nice Lincoln Aviator or a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The airline industry'd turn around in a heartbeat if everybody started buying only American-made products. [/ QUOTE ] Goodness! The reason the airlines are hurting right now is because of a slow-down in the GLOBAL economy. Foriegn trade and commerce were one of the biggest factors in the development in the airlines as we now know them. Once again you know not what you speak of. Having a healthy economy depends on being EFFICIENT. Buying less-competitive products, foriegn or domestic, does not yield any sustainable benefit for an economy. Trade benefits all sides, my advice to turn this economy around in a heartbeat is to liberalize trade policy and stop protecting less-competitive industries. FWIW Chrysler is owned by Daimler. Jeeps are built in Ohio. BMW is a german company and the X-5 is built in South Carolina. Is there a difference? |

| a little late on this reply, but my dad has a BMW 740i... such a nice, smooth ride...seats are extremely comfortable, they are pretty fast (i dunno how many of us who fly 500mph would think 100mph on the highway is) , and best of all(not for me yet) the heated steering wheel!. I dont know much about 'em, but i would highly suggest 'em |
