What is life like for a pilot with a wife and kids. How hard is it to be gone? Are you able to have time for them? I am thinking about becoming a pilot. I live in Minnesota and plan on going to the University of North Dakota since it is ony a few hours from my home and it wouldnt cost me to much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a pretty big decision to make about this in a few months.

Honest answer? Sometimes.

I have days where it's not too bad, then I have days where I just wanna get home, get in the floor and play with my son. Sometimes I feel guilty b/c I know my wife is taking care of him without me there helping. Her response is always "Look. You're out making money, and that's what we need you to do." The only way for it to work with a family is to be with someone that supports you 100%. Even with only 10 days off a month, though, I'm home more than half the nights a month, which isn't really that bad. Not commuting REALLY helps.
