| Re: At what age did you move out of your parents' house? Left at 18 when I went to college, came back for a summer, left for FL the summer after that. Moved back in when we left FL due to the hurricane blitz and the levelling of my flight school. Moved back out when I went to Skymates, moved back in during training at PCL while hunting for a house, moved out (hopefully for good) about two months ago.
I agree that moving out of the 'rental's house will cause you to mature faster. I learned more about budgeting, working and managing myself in general after I moved out of my parent's house than I ever thought I would. My brother still lives there (he's 26), and he's scared to move out. Part of the problem is that he doesn't know anyone he feels is responsible to cover their half of rent and bills. Add to that there are NO jobs around here at the entry level that you could pay rent/bills on your own, and he's kinda stuck.
So, IMO, there are circumstances that will either keep you from moving out or sending you packing back to circle the wagons.

Current plan is for me to get done with college and work for about a year or two and go to a flight school. So ill be around 23-24 when I expect to move out. No rent/food/utilites for as long as im in school that they are paying for.

There is ALWAYS a way to make enough money to live on your own (once you are out of high school anyways and for some people, before). You might not be able to live in the town you want, but with hard work (lots and lots of hard work some times) you can make it happen. |

| Re: At what age did you move out of your parents' house? I moved out at 20, then I graduated and moved back in at 23. Then I moved out at 24. Came to Florida to go to flight school, ran out of money. Moved in with my dad to finish flight school. Moved out again at 25. Now I'm hoping to move in with my girlfriend and let her pay all the bills at 26, as long as I can get a job.

| Re: At what age did you move out of your parents' house? moved out at 18. Parents never paid for anything. They paid for my school but never rent or food or any of that. I would say paying for flight training and livin on your own might be a stretch, but i live in san diego and its not THAT expensive. Roommates kinda suck but it makes it totally doable. Not sharing a room or anything, who cant afford $800/month? I know regional pay is bad, but its not THAT bad is it? |
