17.5 to go to the Air Force Academy (so do I call that "to join the Air Force" or "to go to college"?) Haven't been back since, and that was 12 years ago, so in all likelyhood, I'll never go back.

AF basic training was a tea party for 6 1/2 weeks (minus time spent away from significant other). . . my 8 month tech school following it was more painful.

LMAO . . . I'd not go through it again, even if it meant that I had to die.

What was even worse? Being in the Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry!!!

My parents moved to California when I turned 18, I was working and stayed in Phoenix and got an apartment with a buddy of mine. I haven't lived with the parents since then.

I would say get out as soon as possible, it will make you grow up real fast. Its also a good feeling to look around and know everything around you is yours, and you make the rules.

for you older folk:

do you think it is still feasible to move out at age 18 and never come back. (assuming one lives in a major city such as LA). one thing i hate about living in this day and age is the age you have to be to get a job. my dad got his first job whence he was 12. working at a fruit stand.

Now you're lucky to get work at age 16.

opinions?

21 now, still at home. Won't be moving out for another year. It's a drag sometimes, but as a student pilot, paying as he goes, the free room and board is oh-so-nice.

Are you kidding..I started workin when I was 12 and i'm only 24 now. Theres always and I mean ALWAYS jobs available.

I flew with a guy who lived in Orange County about 2 miles of SNA and he said he won't leave his parents house because he couldn't afford to live anywhere near there.

I know that crap wouldn't fly around here. I guess its not so bad if you pay some rent and some utilities to help the folks out but mooching off the 'rents for that long is kinda ####ty.

yes always jobs available but not for 12-16 year olds. now everything requires a permit or lisence... etc etc.

also 12 years ago is a big difference than today.

i guess it depends where you live...

He11 yes, it is. You just can't be lazy. You might have to work alot, and sacrifice more - but then again, isn't that what growing up is all about?
