Exclamation My Grandma had a volleyball-sized tumor removed yesterday

Last week my grandma went to the doctor. She was complaining of pressure in her abdomen, and she was having to pee a lot more often than usual.

The woman had been hiding a massive tumor attached to one of her ovaries. It was the size of a volleyball. Once my mom saw her on the doctor's table, without her baggy clothes on, it was SO obvious. The docs said it was equivilent to her being 5 months pregnant.

So yesterday she basically had a c-section. The tumor was removed, as well as her abdominal fat layer (yup, my awesome grammy got a tummy tuck, I'm jealous!). The docs had been pretty sure that it was not cancerous, but when the slide came back it turns out it actually was. But, they got it all, and it was in the very most earliest possible stage. So, it's good it was removed now, and they said even if it had spread a bit, the cure would be worse than the disease anyway at this point. A complete histerectomy was also performed.

She's doing well. Recovery may take some time, considering her age, but she handled the procedure very well and the outlook is great.

I just can not believe she managed to hide this from everyone. I mean, equivilent to 5 freakin' months pregnant! This woman had 4 kids, you'd think she'd fess up to something being amiss before it got that bad! Oh well. I'm just glad she's going to be okay.

And I'm jealous of the tummy tuck. (A surgically necessary procedure considering the size/location of the tumor, not done cosmetically.)

Careful, you'll just give the pro-lifers more to scream about..."you tumor murderer!"
