Default Wedding invitations

Hey all, as you may know I'm getting married in October and I thought I'd be nice and help with the planning. I'm in the market for wedding invitiations and I need some advice. Where did all you married JCers get your invitations? I'm making the "Save the Day" cards myself but I'm not going to attempt wedding invitations alone.

I just made my sisters, it was super cheap! I took their pictures, printed them on vellum in black and white, printed the invites on pretty cardstock, put the vellum pics on top of the invite, and wrapped a strip of pretty paper around the two to hold them together, the paper had their names and the date on it. You can totally make them for so cheap and they always look better than a cheesy premade one! Take a look at these, totally easy to do yourself but very unique and elegant. http://www.youreinvited.net/wedding_...catalog_1.html

We actually got ours at either office max or office depot. They're blank on the inside and you print them at home. They actually turned out really nice and didn't cost us all that much. We got quite a few comments on them and people were asking us where we got them....no one believed that we got them where we did.

Might want to check it out. Not all the stores carry them...we had to visit a few before we found them.

We had ours done by the print-shop that used to do my dad's business printing. Small-town place, not too pricey, but I paid for the quality that I wanted. They also did Mr. & Mrs. cards to match.

Inkwell Printers, Dodgeville Wisconsin.

I ordered our out of one of those wedding invitation catalogs.. not too expensive actually and they ended up being very nice invitations too...

just type in "wedding invitations" in google and at least one of those typical "everything wedding" catalogs should show up!

just remember - nobody really remembers the invitations, most get thrown out too - they just remember how much fun they had!

We made our own invitations. We took a very expensive invitation we wanted and just made it ourselves for a fraction of the price. It was a lot of work but well worth it as we received a lot of comments on it.

But generally, get a great DJ / Band and pay the cash for food and bar. Those are the two things that will be talked about forever.

Also be sure to talk to the DJ about the volume of the music. We received so many comments about our DJ playing good music but also people said it was nice to be able to talk without having to scream.

For those of you that made them what programs did you use? Also, I like the Office Depot idea, I may check that out this weekend.

I used Print Shop Deluxe, but you could use just about anything. I divided the page in thirds, that gave us 3 on a page. I just put a text box where I needed it and typed the words, then printed an cardstock. For the vellum we did take that part to Kinkos or some where, can't remember for sure, cause inkjet ink gets smudgy sometimes on some vellums.

Some places do major discounts if you use other products from them. The place I got my dress, as well as the place I ordered bridemaids dresses offered a min of 10% off list price. The tux place (after hours, who was very easy to work with for distance people) offered 50% off.

It's true. All I remember about anyone's wedding is excessive drinking and who made an ass of themselves.

Even our wedding, it wasn't the food, invitations, or anything else, it was all music, memories and getting together to have a good time.

Thanks for the help guys and gals. Jessica and I are gonna hit up some places this weekend and see what there is to see.
There's good news too, a bunch of my friends who are musicians have agreed to be the band for the wedding. They're good and are not asking for $ which is good, but I'll have to give them something anyway.
Now, if I could just get some young fun-loving people to come to the wedding we'd be in business.

Oh believe me, I'd love to get a keg and have some serious fun but most of mine and Jessica's families are conservative older Kentuckians. No booze.

Try looking on The Knot . We actually ordered ours from a local store, but we got a lot of ideas off of that website.

Kell. In all honesty my mom's side of the family has a recipe. Grandpa has it in a lock box in his house. . Jessica's from KY too and so is my entire family so I guess I shouldn't make fun.

Yeah, it's cool. I'm from TN originally, so I bet my family has a good ole fashioned recipe hanging around somewhere.

Why not send a "save this date" invitation first and one that you can easily print out. It at least lets people know about the wedding and gives them time to reserve vacation time if necessary. That way, if someone on the list can't make the wedding, then you just saved the expense of the actual inviation.
