| Any hour now Just to give everyone an update. Tanya and I are now at the hospital and have been here since about 10am.
Mom and baby are doing fine. The contractions aren't that bad yet. Hopefully, I will be a dad sometime tomorrow.
Pictures to follow. |

| Re: Any hour now Sweet, dude. We actually put on the "ways we can improve" comment card for the hospital we were at "You really need wireless internet access." We were both jonesing for a fix after being there for 16 hours and no baby yet.
Hope everything goes well, and you'll never forget those first couple of seconds. |

I hope it goes really speedy for you!
I agree, more hospitals should have wi-fi. The first night after my c-sec, I just laid there all night unable to sleep or be comfortable. I'd have given anything for my blessed computer. The baby was in the NICU, so I couldn't even have him to distract me. I was fighting to get released the next day, and they finally caved a mere 40 hours after the operation. I was so mind-bogglingly bored. Not to mention tired of assorted people coming into my room to poke me, take my temperature and remove yet even more blood from my poor arms. |

| Re: Any hour now Sorry for the long wait in the update. It was a little bit crazy the last couple of days. Amber, you are right, not having HS internet stinks.
Mom was on Petocin for nearly 22 hours before going into active labor. After 2.5 hours of pushing our little one got stuck and Tanya had to have a C-section. The C-section took nearly 2 hours.
Tanya and I are now the proud parents of Emily Sarah. She was 8 lbs 15 oz and 21 inches long. She was born on 5/26 at 7:56pm.
Sorry for the bad avatar. It will not upload correctly. I will post more pics as soon as I can.. |

| Re: Any hour now Congrats, man! I think my first "what the heck am I doing" moment was looking in the backseat driving home from the hospital and seeing a car seat with an infant in it back there. Needless to say, my driving habits changed instantly. Enjoy every minute of it. |

| Re: Any hour now Glad everything turned out okay. The most important thing about a birth is that everyone is doing well! Don't worry about c-sec vs v-birth or any of that crap. Just enjoy having a wonderful little baby to love!
Hope the recovery goes quickly. I was off the painkillers within 4 days, driving within 5, and picking up my toddler at 8 days after. I was not a 'good' patient. Tell her to take it easy & rest lots!
And that old adage about sleeping while the baby sleeps? LIVE BY IT. Let the house and other other chores go for a couple weeks. There'll be plenty of time to clean & do laundry later, get some rest initially!
A big congrats! Welcome to the world, little one! |

You might be dead to the world at like 1-6 PM and wide awake at 2 AM, but it's better than dropping from exhaustion. |

| Re: Any hour now Tanya, Emily, and I are now home from the hospital. As you can see by the time on this post it has been a rough night. Emily has been up nearly every hour on the hour. The only time she will be quiet is if someone holds her. As tired as I am I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I think she doesn't like the quietness of the house.
Kellwolf, you are correct on the driving. I caught myself a couple of times going slightly under the speed limit.
Thanks for all the encouragement and congrats everyone. |

| Re: Any hour now Sorry it's such a long night!
Those first weeks/months are SO tough. Glad you all are home from the hospital!
The 'defining moment' for us was when we brought our first baby home from the hospital, and we set the carseat down on the kitchen floor. He looked at us, we looked at him, and we all thought "now what?". |

[/ QUOTE ] Get used to that.
Seriously, big congratulations!!! It's such an amazing experience. My recommendations:
Sleep when the baby sleeps . . . or you WILL go insane.
Learn how to sleep sitting up with baby in your arms, or, if you're comfortable with it, bring her to bed with you (consult your ped on this, it's a little risky). They aren't used to being of our human touch and sometimes will be quiet only when held.
Although it will seem like an eternity, it will get better after the first week; and better and better after that.
Good luck!! |

[/ QUOTE ]Yep (think so anyway -- don't remember what the 5 s's are ). Its' (I'm guessing here) Shusshing, swaddling, shaking, side and I have no idea. The shusshing works with him 90% of the time (although it's funny, he'll try to push my face away from his ear for the first few seconds before giving in). If not, swaddling him, turning him on his side, and jiggling him works the other 10% (unless he's actually really hungry). |

| Re: Any hour now LOL, sucking, not shaking, don't want to be encouraging that! Swinging is the other. Both of my kids have been receptive to those and haven't really ever had to be held in order to stay asleep. We learned w/ Caleb that you shouldn't start out doing something you don't want to keep doing, we did rock him to sleep at first and then he had to be rocked forever until we started the 5 s's, and broke the habit. |

| Re: Any hour now Nothing made a difference with my little preemie.
He's just now starting to lose the colic-induced screaming episodes every night. Just growing out of it.
Ugh.
(He did have reflux though, that made him SO miserable. It's noticable the difference between now and when he was in SERIOUS pain!) |

[/ QUOTE ]Not British nanny shaking -- light shaking (jiggling, if you will).
We have the same problem, if we just hold/rock him to sleep, he'll wake up as soon as we put him down. But if I swaddle him and hold him in my hands on his side and vibrate him a little with my hands, he'll settle down instantly and go to sleep for good in about 5 minutes. |

Mate she was an Au Pair - very different from a Nanny - an Au Pair, has no training, and are around to help out with household chores - dishes, trash, hoovering, not to bring up or look after your child. Unfortunately Americans use Au Pairs as cheap nannies - you do that you pay the price!
I must say there is nothing like an English Nanny to get a family in order!! I know - I had a couple Nannies and a few Au Pairs when I was growing up!! |
