Default Whoo hooo.. i\'m gonna be an aunt!

yup, my sister is a few weeks early.. baby is 36 weeks now, but fully developed and has decided it wants OUT! not gonna be a halloween baby like we thought...

so kathy's water broke just a trickle yesterday and she thought it was just baby pushing on her bladder...went in to see the doc today and they put her right into a room. unfortunately, it's not the delivery she wanted to do which sucks!

She wanted a midwife, water birth, no drugs etc... but she just moved up to orlando and hadn't yet found a new midwife. so she's at the hospital and they put her on antibiotics since the water already broke some. why, i dunno....

I told her to get on those nurses and have them help her situate herself so she can walk around or get in the shower or what not cuz otherwise she's laying there horizontal dealing with the pain and that just doesn't help baby come into the world any....

nurses said they were going to put pitocin into her pretty soon to induce labor...which i'm not too keen with cuz the more drugs, the higher probability of a C-section.

so we'll see what happens...i should know something tonight or tomorrow

YAY!! I'm gonna be an aunt! Whoo HOO

Yay! Congrats!

Once your water breaks the risk of infection starts to rise. You generally can't be left without antibiotics once your water breaks.

All those are great things to help!

The use of painkillers doesn't necessesarily lead to a c-section. Are you sure they didn't say "Pitocin"? Pitocin is the drug that is used to induce labor, and will help speed things along.

Sometimes painkillers can slow labor progress a little, but the benefits of the mother not being in absolute agony are sometimes worth it! I do not want to go through labor again without my epidural, regardless of whether it slows things a little bit. It does not always slow progress, by the way. I'd much rather have a few more minutes of bearable labor than have a slightly shorter 'natural' birth! (But that's just me!)

Yup, first labors are tough. It can be 6 hours, it can be 30! I was induced, and mine only took 13. I had the pitocin started at 6:15, epidural at 11, baby was born at 7:45.

Best of luck to her!

oh yeah.. i got it wrong! it is pitocin!

and she can't move around cuz she said she's on a fetal monitor....someone needs to create a portable fetal monitor so that the mom's aren't laying there for hours dealing with nothing but pain!

Nieces and nephews are great fun!

I'm up to eight now. We thought that seven was enough, but my sister suprised us with her fourth this year.....and she was 44 at the time!

So how did it go? Are you an aunt yet?

As for not being able to walk around, that's sometimes the way it is. I had the IV (for the Pitocin) and a moniter from the very start, being induced I didn't have much of a choice. So I was stuck in 'the bed' from 6:15 am until 9:30 that night (again, thank goodness for the miracle of the epidural!). It sucked, but pretty much any way you slice it labor sucks. The end result is what makes it worth it.

Hope she and the little one are doing well! Best wishes to all!
