Default Introduction

Hello everybody,

I've been lurking on this board for about a month now checking things out. Waiting for my return to the states so I can start training. I'm in Iraq at the moment.

I've been doing a lot of research on flight schools to get me started on my career with the airlines. I've narrowed it down to a few schools now. One being ATP, the others Falcon, and Ari Ben. I really like ATP, but I have the GI Bill which I'm trying to use, so I'm pretty sure I will attend Falcon Aviation because I live in the Atlanta area and I can use the VA to pay for a large portion of it.

So, my plans are to do my private in October when I come home for vacation for about 5 weeks. Then come back here study the books and get ready for when I come home for good in January. So I would pick up with the rest of the program in February. I'd just like to utilize the time that I have to get things done. What do you guys think? Is it doable to finish the PPL in about 4-5 weeks. Or would it be better to wait until February to start everything?

It is possible to get your private in a little over a month, trouble is though - scheduling.

If you can be at your selected training establishement from 8am to 6pm, AND have an instructor that is dedicated to you from those hours (or even a team of instructors), I think it would be possible. You would need to fly over 10 hours a week, as well as making sure you have the knowledge portion taken care of at some point. Ten hours a week, for 4 or 5 weeks - 40 or 50 hours. Which, is over the minimums for the required amount of flight time for the Private.

Welcome to the boards!

As Surreal said, 5 weeks is a short time frame for the PPL. You will probably want to see your family while you home. You could save some studying time by coming in prepared to take the written and well read on some other books, but if it were me I would still want to have a little more time just in case.

BTW, thanks for your service!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm studying right now for the knowledge test so I will be ready to take that when I get home right off the bat. I have my 1st class medical scheduled for the day I get home.

Surreal, you are right; scheduling is the one thing I'm concerned about. You've been there a while, so you have a problem with scheduling? I've been corresponding with Ray and he said they can get me an instructor 7 days a week if I want, but I'm thinking 5-6 days a week will be good for me because I do want to spend a little time with the fam while I'm back, but they know I'm basically coming back on vacation to do this, so they are good with it.

I'm actually going to study to take the commercial written while I'm home as well, then when I come back in January take the instrument written along with the instrument instructor written since the ??'s come from the same test bank.

Surreal, when do you get done with all of your training?? Maybe you'll be my instructor in the near future.

Well, if Ray says they can have you an instructor 7 days a week . . .then I guess you can have an instructor 7 days a week.

I'll send you a PM here shortly about this.

I'm finishing up my Commercial right now, should have it done close to the end of the month. At the same time, working on some CFI stuff - lesson plans, etc.

I'd love to be your instructor . . .an American student, with a determination to succeed. Hell yes. Time will tell.
