Navigator and Flying?

Just curious, are navigators trained on how to fly planes or do they just handle comms, nav, radio, weapons systems, etc?

Could a navigator fly a plane if the pilots were suddenly incapacitated?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and was looking to ask a few questions and maybe get some input on my WOFT packet. My name is Seth, I'm 19 years old and graduated from a Department of Defense school in 2008 over seas. I'm a military brat and most of my extended family is in the Army whether it be active or the reserves, enlisted or officer. I've grown up around this military tradition and am really looking forward to hopefully becoming the first Warrant in my family.

I have researched extensively about my packet and am completely done with my packet and just need to get one LOR signed. Here are the details of my packet.

ASVAB: 96, with a GT: 135
AFAST: 130
High School diploma, with no college.
Better than 20/20 vision
PFT: 256 :p (Sucky, I know.)
LOR: CW5 in aviation (has sat on many boards), CSM in aviation, and the CG of Aviation and Missile Command

I am wondering if my scores are good enough or if there may be any advice at all. I'm trying to go into the Battalion board as prepared as possible. What kind of questions do they ask and how should I project myself? I want to give off confidence, but I don't want to come off as cocky. Is there any tips on this? What color suit should I wear or will it even matter?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!

-Seth

Are they on par as far as flight experience goes? Since they both deal with special ops, do they learn similar tactics? Not looking for in-depth info. Just been reading Night Stalkers and was wondering about AF helos.:pirate:

I just received my AFOQT scores this morning. I was originally looking at a non-tech position, but my recruiter says I should go for Air Battle Manager. Aside from the fact that the Dec/Jan non-tech boards are canceled, he said they're having trouble recruiting qualified applicants for non-pilot rated slots. I know this is a flight position but I don't know much about it and I know my scores are not pilot-competitive, but I'm having a hard time evaluating how competitive my scores are for this route. Anyone out there gone this way or perhaps able to point me in the right direction?

I am basically at a decision right now that is very important and need some insight from people who know more about the topic. I will be a sophomore after this semester. I am having trouble receiving enough financial aid for school and really will probably not make it through unless I can figure out something different. With this huge financial burden I have been struggling in school. I have already tried AFROTC and it does not seem to be the right fit for me and they do not give scholarships very readily. Also, I thing maybe guard or reserves is more along the lines of what I want to eventually do. I am considering joining the ANG which should come with a 20,000 dollar sign on bonus and pay for my school and supply around 600 to 800 dollars a month while I am in college full time.

So my question is pretty much would this be a good idea if I want to try and get a pilot slot later on?

Hey Guys,
My question to you military aviator's is this. What is the general consensus concerning American contract pilots working for uber amounts of money in Iraq and Afghanistan? Any animosity or feelings of, "This should be a job for a member of the Military."? Just curious because I'd rather not pursue a military contract job if the military member's (of whom I highly respect) don't support those civilian operations.
Thanks!
