Did I miss the boat? I had heard that they were going to accept international candidates for the next few years, but now they're not advertising. Did they discontinue that program? Or do they plan to resume applications in 2010? I know the invitations for the 2009 open houses or whatever they were called went very fast...

must be, I was looking around on their website and when it says to pick country for the application, it was stuck on UAE. So I guess it is a waiting game as usual

I got an email a few months ago saying they've stopped hiring for the near future. I'm a rated pilot so I probably couldn't go anyways but applied for fun.

From the financials coming in from the airlines in the UAE, I wouldn't be surprised to see hiring freezes for a while. I think Emirates took a huge shot in the pocket book. I'd wager Ethiad had similar results.

| I had heard (on PPRuNe) that if you had a CPL, they just "didn't want to hear about it" suggesting some sort of "loophole" as far as that went. Not sure how true that is... You would think they would want CPL holders so as to minimize the amount of training they would have to give cadets. Etihad has been ordering a lot of planes, so hopefully that's good news for the hopeful...

On the flip side you can train a student easier, since they have a blank mind. Some people have a hard time letting things slide from their memory bank. Would be a cool job, but times suck right now.

I'm not sure what's going on with the Etihad cadet program for foreigners. Most airlines in the region have slowed their expansion plans. That said, FlyDubai just started operations; Air Arabia is still expanding; Wataniya has recently started operations from Kuwait; and Emirates is still taking delivery of aircraft this year. Quote:
No doubt Etihad is losing money hand over fist. They do have very deep pockets though and may eventually make money. That said, Emirates did report a profit: Emirates Airline Reports Earnings Results for the Financial Year Ended March 31, 2009 05/25/2009 Emirates Airline reported earnings results for the financial year ended March 31, 2009. The company has reported a net profit $268 million, a decrease of 80.4%, compared to $1.37 billion for the 2007-08 financial year. Bit down on the last year as one can see, but still a profit. This coming financial year might not be som good unless things pick up again. Typhoonpilot | |

I hope Emirates does pull through and ramp up the hiring again. They're in my top five, and my wife keeps bugging me about it.

I would like to fly for Emirates, but I'm not sure if I can fly long hauls for the rest of my life

Minimums arent too bad at FlyDubai: http://www.flydubai.com/workwithus/pilots.aspx Normally airlines like this REQUIRE time in type, but they seem to just give preference to it.

Thanks for all the input, everyone! ![]() I thought about applying for this opportunity both times when it was open before, but I figured that I had better finish my degree first (tentative graduation next Spring). Hopefully it opens up again.

I was under the impression that they have stages of screening for international candidates. The current cadet screening is closed but when they start looking for 2010-11 cadets it will be advertised once again on Etihad's website. Best thing to do is keep checking their website.
