Default Scary time at ERAU Daytona

Did y'all see what happened at ERAU Daytona Beach? They lost like 50 of the 65 planes they had to a tornado. Reminders of Hurricane Frances when I worked at Pan Am.

Here's the story from the Daytona News-Journal:

Hope you all up there are all right...you're in our thoughts and prayers...

So much for the talk of breaking even as far as the finances were considered. Just hope they dont furlough some of us IPs for the upcoming semester. That would not be a very jolly Chrismahankwanzaka present. Its still early to say, but I'd guess there will be little or no flying for the first month of next year and hence little work for me.

I'm wondering how all of the other flight schools at DAB fared.

It's fortunate this was on Chirstmas Day, I haven't heard any reports of fatalities.

Can someone point me to a Something-to-English dictionary, or translate that for me?

I wouldn't be surprised if ERAU managed to have a new fleet in place by middle to late January. I'm sure they have a plan for something like this. Their fleet is obviously backed by insurance, and perhaps even a Cessna and Piper redeployment contract for any lost aircraft.

Sounds like a superb business plan. Concur.

No, they rack up a bunch of sim time.

A friend of mine is a student there and he said that he received an email today that outlined the current status of the aviation dept.

- The total amount of aircraft available (rented or borrowed) are near pre-tornado numbers.
- They don't know what these airplanes are equipped with yet (avionics wise)
- Most simulators are relocated. They were told to not be surprised to see simulators in the atrium of the College of Aviation building, with students hanging over the 2nd and 3rd floor balcony railings cheering them on. I personally wouldn't be surprised to see a section of the University Center (cafeteria) partitioned off.
- Spruance Hall (administration building) has to be demolished.

They pretty much came back to their original numbers over the break. The local paper here said they got a huge showing from alumnis and companies that were associated with ERAU.

They had a few planes on order from Piper and Cessna and all them so they just got them in advance.

They bounced back pretty quickly so a thank you and a good job goes out to all the people that made it happen and to all the companies and people who gave their support.
